Oscar Peterson Trio Plays

LP (Item 540163) Verve, 1964 — Condition: Near Mint-
The Oscar Peterson Trio plays – and pretty nicely too! The album's got a simple, unassuming cover and title – but it delivers some rock-solid grooves that are very much in the spirit of Peterson's famous sound in the 60s – that classic combination of piano, bass, and drums delivered with the help of Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen – both players who helped Oscar set a whole new standard in piano jazz! Titles include the great groover "The Strut" – plus "Little Darlin", "Fly Me To The Moon", "This Nearly Was Mine", "Let's Fall In Love", and "Little Right Foot".  © 1996-2025, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(MGM stereo pressing. Cover has some ring and edge wear, bumped corners, and some price sticker remnants.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Bud Powell's Moods
Verve/Norgran, 1954/1955. Very Good+
The moods of Bud Powell are some plenty darn ones – corners of sound that few other players had explored at this point in time – served up here especially well in the album's gentler numbers, which almost seem like evil doppelgangers to some of the more rote cocktail piano of the 50s! ... One of the rarest albums by the guitar jazz great Tal Farlow! The set's one of Tal's best for Verve (although they're all pretty darn good), and it features his edgey guitar in a west coast rhythm trio with Claude Williamson on piano, Red Mitchell on bass, and Stan Levey on drums. Verve, 1967. Very Good+ Gatefold
One of our favorite-ever albums from the great Stan Getz – a set that's sometimes overlooked as it was released by Verve after Stan's big run of bossa records in the mid 60s – great albums themselves, but put together as a run of similar styles that actually hid all the creative ...
