Desert Winds

LP (Item 53949) Argo, 1964 — Condition: Very Good
Also available
Illinois Jacquet — Desert Winds ... CD 8.99
An easily-grooving set that features Illinois Jacquet blowing over small combo arrangements with Tommy Flanagan on piano and Kenny Burrell on guitar – plus some added Latin percussion from Willie Rodriguez! The presence of the Latin percussion really adds a nice element to the album – making the tracks dance lightly, in the "conga plus soul jazz" mode that was being employed heavily at the time on labels like Blue Note and Prestige – and in a style that really makes Jacquet hit a few new notes to match the groove! Titles include "Star Eyes", "Blues For The Early Bird", "Lester Leaps In", "Canadian Sunset", and "Desert Winds".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Mono Grey label Argo pressing. Cover has some wear & light staining on the lower corner, with some wear and aging overall.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Happy Moods
Argo, 1960. Very Good
A sprightly set from the Ahmad Jamal Trio – but also a record that's not as brightly colored as you might guess from the title, thanks to a nice undercurrent of darkness in the mix! Jamal's piano work is often nicely punctuated – perhaps living up to the "happy moods" ... LP, Vinyl record album

Argo, 1958. Very Good+
Ramsey and the trio are on the front in tuxedoes, top hats, and tails – but the overall sound of the record is much more in keeping with their soul jazz grooves of the late 50s – not necessarily gentlemanly, but with a worldly appreciation for a variety of styles of music, and perhaps a ...
