Rare & Unreleased Recordings From The Golden Reign Of The Queen Of Soul

An amazing discovery in soul – rare and unreleased sides from Aretha Franklin's prime years at Atlantic Records – nearly all of which are as exciting as the classics in her catalog! The work here is truly incredible – a range of demos, outtakes, and other rare moments that all offer up Aretha in a more personal, intimate setting – one that shows a bit more of the roots of her years before Atlantic in Columbia, sometimes with a bit more jazz in the mix as well. The overall feel is still very much the kind of soul you'll know from Franklin's Atlantic albums – especially as the set moves on into the early 70s – but there's a less-iconic feeling here that we really love – a way of getting past the legend, and even more into the person – at a level that's really helped rekindle our love of Aretha's music! The package features 35 tracks in all, nearly all of which have never been released – and titles include rare versions of "Sweet Bitter Love", "Rock Steady", "I Need A Strong Man", "Heavenly Father", "I Want To Be With You", "Ain't But The One", "Love Letters", "Are You Leaving Me", "My Way", "My Cup Runneth Over", "You're Taking Up Another Man's Place", "Pledging My Love/The Clock", "The Fool On The Hill", "Talk To Me", "Mr Big", "Lean On Me", and "Suzanne".  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

A classic from Jenny Burton – only the singer's second album as a solo act, but already a set that has Jenny hitting on all burners! The mellow numbers are great – never sleepy or too commercial, but pushed into just the right blend of polish and soul – and the groovers have some ... CD
