$7.99 ...

CD

Galactic get some heavy production from Dan The Automator – really chunking up their groove with lots of bass on the bottom and plenty of low-end sounds! The approach isn't really hip hop, but it does give the group's homegrown funk approach a sound that fits more closely next to modern sample records in the crates – but the real appeal of the record is the way it manages to do this while still holding a lot of appeal for fans of instrumental funk. Titles include "The Moil", "Bongo Joe", "Bittersweet", "Doomed", "The Beast", "Kid Kenner", and "Uptown Odyssey".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Barcode has a cutout hole.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Greyboy

Soul Mosaic
Ubiquity, 2004. Used
One of the most unified albums we've ever heard from Greyboy – an excellent little set that perfectly bridges his two loves of funk and hip hop! The core style is in the hip hop-infused mode of earlier years – with lots of programming and scratches by Greyboy himself – but there's ... CD

Chico Mann

Analog Drift
Wax Poetics, 2010. Used
The second proper solo album from Chico Mann is a sprawling and creative one – blending a world of funk & soul, from his roots in modern Afrobeat and Afro Cuban grooves, as filtered through spacier soul sounds and electro – played largely by Chico himself! The set is great for the ... CD
Bluefunks, 2010. Used
One man psychedelic funk jams from Blue and his Bluefunks project – bass player for the ATL's hip hop funk band (who backed Outkast live) – doing his own thing here on HomeCookedTapeHissInfestedFunks! Blue's heavy bass groove leads the way, boundlessly straddling genres and making his ... CD

Heliocentrics

13 Degrees Of Reality
Now Again/Stones Throw, 2013. Used
If this is reality, lead us onward – as the set is a mindblowing batch of trippy psych-funk from The Heliocentrics – even more offbeat and experimental than before, in ways that make the combo the true heirs to the legacy first begun by Stark Reality! The album's definitely funky at ... CD

Martha High & Speedometer

Soul Overdue
Freestyle (UK), 2012. Used
The smoking return of Martha High – a singer who worked famously with James Brown during his funk years, but who never got the same shot at full-length fame as Lyn Collins or Marva Whitney! Martha's every bit as great – and although she did cut later records in the disco years, it's ... CD

City Champs

Set-Up
Electraphonic, 2010. Used
The City Champs are at it again – and sounding even funkier than the first time around! This set's an amazing batch of Hammond-heavy instrumentals – one that really revels in the lean, mean, Memphis heritage of Booker T & the MGs – with all the tight, funky elements that ... CD

Samuel Jon Samuelsson

Fnykur
SJS Music (Iceland), 2007. Used
A compelling little set from Iceland – a large group effort that's half-funky, half-grooving in a more sophisticated way – almost with the depth of an MPS session from the 70s! Maestro Samuel Jon Samuelsson leads the group on trombone – but some of the best aspects here are in ... CD

Heavy G & The Boogaloo Communicators

Serious EP
Cuzone, 2004. Used
Heavy G & The Boogaloo Communicators are at it again – proving that heavy funk can be found west of the Mississippi – and in the Rockies, no less! The album may well be the group's rawest – a nasty batch of hard-hitting numbers that really recall the raw organ sound of the ... CD
Colemine, 2018. Used
Damn! Orgone just keep getting better and better – to the point where we might almost say that there's no difference between the strength of the group's sound and all the funky 70s acts that have inspired their music! The instrumentation and production are right on the money throughout ... CD
