Steady Groovin' – The Blue Note Groove Sides

CD (Item 535763) Blue Note, Late 90s — Condition: Used
$4.99 ...

CD

In one of the more surprising turns of the 90s, guitarist John Scofield has emerged as one of the better funky players of his generation. Scofield never set out to blow anyone's mind as a funkster – but recent underground live sets with groups like Medeski Martin & Wood and Soulive have proved to audiences that he's really picked up a groove – and scattered performances on Blue Note recordings of the past few years have showed him to be equally funky on CD. This 11 track set collects the best of these groove-oriented performances by Scofield, creating one funky CD out of scattered tracks from other albums. Titles include "Camp Out", "Kool", "Do Like Eddie", "Fat Lip", "Big Top", and "Twang".  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Oh!
Blue Note, 2003. Used
An all-star group – featuring John SCOfield, Joe LOvano, Dave HOlland, and Al FOster, hence the unusual name of the ensemble – all grooving in an angular mode that recalls the current Blue Note sound at its freshest. Lovano's edgey tenor and soprano work really make the session hold ... CD

Jimmy Smith

I'm Movin' On
Blue Note, Early 60s. Used
A great little trio session – one of Jimmy's hippest, featuring Grant Green on guitar and Donald Bailey on drums. The talents of Green are quite welcome here – as his lighter touch on the strings makes Jimmy open up a bit more than with some of his other compatriots in this format ... CD

Home Cookin'
Blue Note, 1959. Used
Classic work from Jimmy Smith – a smokin' quartet session from the early 60's, one that sports a rare appearance by Percy France on tenor on most of the tracks! France has a great raw sound that gives the session a nice little edge – and the rest of the group features Kenny Burrell on ... CD

Fantastic studio material from Jimmy's best period on Blue Note! The CD features 6 unreleased tracks – all recorded in 1958, but never issued until now, for some insanely stupid reason! The tracks feature Jimmy's usual organ/guitar/drums trio approach, augmented with some great baritone ... CD
