Walking In Space

CD (Item 535623) CTI/A&M, 1969 — Condition: Used
$6.99 ...

CD

One of the greatest Quincy Jones albums of all time! The record's a spacey jazz masterpiece – and it combine's Quincy's soulful soundtrack vision with the excellent production talents of Creed Taylor, for a monster album of long drawn out cuts that mix soul jazz with more sophisticated arrangements! Bob James plays electric piano on a number of cuts, and in a way, the record's kind of a blueprint for some of James' later CTI albums. Titles include "Killer Joe", "Dead End", "Walking In Space", and "Love & Peace".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Quincy Jones

Dude
A&M, 1981. Used
Quincy just never stopped putting out classic soulful albums! This one, from the early 80s, features a smooth jazzy blend of tracks, with a strong nod to the kinds of souped-up studio sounds that were being used by groups like The Crusaders, but also with a lot of the kind of soulfulness that made ... Hubert Laws

San Francisco Concert
CTI, 1976. Used
Really wonderful work from Hubert Laws – maybe one of his greatest albums for CTI! The record has a laidback feel that's similar to most of Laws' other work for the label, but somehow the live setting also brings out a bit more edge – and gives the record a gently funky groove that's ... CD

Wes Montgomery

Down Here On The Ground
CTI/A&M, 1968. Used
Super-dope work from the great Wes Montgomery – set to excellent early CTI arrangements from Don Sebesky and Deodato! The groove is nice and airy – with Wes' guitar floating over the top, yet still present enough to ring out loud and clear on all the tightly plucked notes – and ... CD

Freddie Hubbard

Sky Dive
CTI, 1972. Used
A killer set from Freddie Hubbard's legendary years on CTI! Like the classic Red Clay album, there's 4 tunes here, all longer cuts – where everyone gets a chance to stretch out a bit, over smooth (but not too smooth!) electric grooves, supported by great orchestrations from Don Sebesky! Ron ... CD

Roger Kellaway

Cello Quartet
A&M/Verve, 1971. Used
A large, ambitious early 70s experiment in "chamber jazz" from pianist/composer Roger Kellaway – a really haunting set with the sweep you'd be much more in store for on a classical or chamber orchestra record, but with an earthbound core, chords and tonal shifts of a piano jazz ... CD

Stan Getz

Apasionado
A&M, 1990. Used
A late record by Stan Getz – one of his last – recorded with Herb Alpert and Eddie Del Barrio arranging – a record with a some surprisingly wonderful sax solos by Stan given the late date – and a surprisingly tight sound given the extended roster of players! The sound is ... CD

CTI, 1974. Used
A great return to form for Chet Baker – his first record in a number of years away from the studio, and proof that his genius could adapt to just about any setting! The album's got a tight focus that's probably one of the keys to its success – a set of arrangements by Don Sebesky that ... CD

An excellent bit of 70s funk from Victor Feldman – smooth, electric, and very different from much of his other work. The set was recorded with direct to disc mastering – and has a feel that's a lot like CTI or Kudu work from the mid 70s, no surprise as the set features work by funky ... CD
