Stan Getz Quartet At Montreux

LP (Item 534352) Polydor (Germany), 1972 — Condition: Near Mint-

An excellent non-US album from Stan Getz – and a real rarity too! The group here is the same one that recorded the soaring Captain Marvel album – and features excellent keyboards from Chick Corea – really stretching out alongside some wailing solos from Stan! Really beautiful stuff – with long tracks that include "Times Lie", "Lush Life", "I Remember Clifford", and "La Fiesta".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Stan Getz

Groovin High
Crown/Modern, Late 40s. Very Good-
Some of the most hard-edged work cut by Stan Getz in the early years – a great reminder that he could really open up with the best of the bop world – and not just lay back and get mellow with an electric guitar! The setting has Stan working with some key west coast talents – ... LP, Vinyl record album
Roost, Early 50s. Very Good+
Beautiful early bop material by Getz – recorded at Storyville with a crack little combo that includes Al Haig on piano and Jimmy Raney on guitar. The Raney/Getz sound is a great one – with Raney's jangly guitar notes providing a nice edge for Getz's smoother alto. Titles include " ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stan Getz

Focus
Verve, 1961. Near Mint- Gatefold
Oft-overlooked album that's actually one of Getz's most far-reaching of the 60s! Recorded in the year before he got caught up in his bossa pop frenzy, the record shows Getz as a darkly toned modernist, weaving out complex solos over the album's extended suite "Focus", written and ... Stan Getz

West Coast Jazz
Verve, 1955. Very Good
A classic pairing of the tenor of Stan Getz and the gentle rhythms of the LA scene of the 50s – and a record that stands up beautifully over the years! Clearly, someone at Verve thought that Stan should get in on the bug for west coast jazz at the time – and although the date was ... LP, Vinyl record album

Stan Getz

Sweet Rain
Verve, 1967. Near Mint- Gatefold
One of Stan Getz's greatest records – no fooling! This gem often gets overlooked because it was issued in the years between Stan's bossa recordings and his later pop experiments – but trust us, it's a totally solid jazz album, with a quality level that was hardly ever matched by Getz ... Stan Getz makes a key musical trip to Sweden – to showcase his affection for a jazz scene that had been growing strongly in the postwar years – often in directions that were similar to Stan's own sound at the time! Stan Getz

Dynasty
Verve, 1971. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
A great lost album from Stan Getz! The record features Stan in a totally new setting, playing with some relatively unfamiliar French talents – Eddie Louiss on organ, Rene Thomas on guitar, and Bernard Lubat on drums. Louiss is incredible, and has a free spacey sound that recalls Larry Young ... LP, Vinyl record album
Verve, 1953. Very Good-
The title's a bit misleading, but the record's a great one! Oddly, the album's not a follow up to the West Coast Jazz album by Stan Getz – firstly, because it wasn't actually done on the west coast, and secondly, because this one was actually recorded two years before! But that doesn't stop ... LP, Vinyl record album
Freedom/Polydor (Japan), 1965. Near Mint- 2LP
One of the most striking Ornette Coleman albums of the 60s – a set that came together because of an odd regulation, but which also resulted in some really wonderful music as well! The record documents a 1965 London concert by Ornette – but, in order to get a visa to visit the UK, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Polydor, 1970. Very Good+ Gatefold
