Atlantic Starr (with bonus track)

CD

✈

The first album by Atlantic Starr – a tight set of modern soul tunes with a very different feel than their later work! Part of the credit goes to Bobby Eli – who arranged and produced the set, giving it a feel that's almost late Philly – tight, sophisticated, and right on the money at all the best points! There's a number of sweet mellow ballads with lead vocals by Sharon Bryant, and other tracks that groove in an uptempo way that points towards more of the group's 80s work – a great mix of modes that makes for a really well-developed album right out of the gate. Titles include "Gimme Your Lovin", "The Love I Never Had", "Visions", "Keep It Comin", "Stand Up", "Where There's Smoke There's Fire", "We Got It Together", and "Being In Love With You Is So Much Fun". CD features a bonus track – "Stand Up (single version)".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

LTD

Shine On
A&M (Japan), 1980. Used
Massively solid boogie work from Jeffrey Osborne and LTD – still grooving beautifully at the end of the 70s, and working here with top-shelf production from Bobby Martin! The set's got that buoyant LTD groove that was a perfect foil for Osborne's soaring vocals – a sound that never ... CD

Starpoint

All Night Long
PTG (France), 1982. Used
Starpoint's getting a bit loose and free with their fashions on the cover of this one – but the grooves themselves are tighter than ever! If anything, Starpoint seems to be a lot more confident than before – working in a mode that's completely free from late 70s trends, but which also ... CD

Brothers Johnson

Light Up The Night
A&M, 1980. Used
More hit magic from the Brothers Johnson – still working with Quincy Jones at this point, and virtually setting up the blueprint for jazzy soul in the 80s! Backings are by an all-star team, and Rod Temperton's helping out Quincy with arrangements – going for that snapping groove ... CD

O'Bryan

Be My Lover
Capitol/PTG (Netherlands), 1984. Used
O'Bryan's virtually a one man show here – handling vocals, keyboards, arrangements, and other instrumental bits too – but he also gets some great help on the album's lean arrangements, with just the right sort of funky touches on guitar, bass, and drums! The set starts out with a ... CD

Put Me In Your Mix
A&M/Universal (Japan), 1991. Used
A nice little record that some folks slept on over the years – a bit of a comeback album for Barry White – an overlooked early 90s session that updates his sound a bit, yet which still continues the charm of his classic years! There's a bit of a new jack groove going on in a few of the ... CD

Temptations

Truly For You
Gordy/PTG (Netherlands), 1984. Used
A great 80s set from The Temptations – one of the few Motown acts who managed to deliver great work again and again over the years! The production has some 80s traces that are slightly dated, but the vocals are still top-shelf all the way – strongly moved much more into a mellow and ... CD

Trust Me
Motown/PTG (Netherlands), 1982. Used
A near-lost chapter in the career of Jean Carn – her one and only album recorded for Motown, cut in the early 80s with production by Norman Connors! Oddly, although Connors was the first producer to give Jean Carn a chance back in the 70s as a smooth soul vocalist – finding her voice a ... CD
