One of the few good things to come out of the cultural pillage of the Buena Vista Social Club was the reintroduction of soulful Cuban singer Ibrahim Ferrer to American audiences. Ferrer's voice is extremely wonderful, so much so that even cloying production by Ry Cooder can't keep it down. The set's got 11 numbers that are done in a fairly traditional style – and titles include "Silencio", "Herido De Sombras", "Bruca Manigua", "Mami Me Gusto", and "Que Bueno Baila Usted".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Out of print, includes slipcase.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

El Juicio
Fania, 1972. Used
Supposedly the end of Willie Colon's early "crime" career – as the title and cover imply that he's finally been brought to trial! Don't worry about Willie being beaten down, though, because the music on the album is every bit as fierce and powerful as ever – and features a ... CD

Johnny Pacheco's still one hell of an artist well into these late 70s years of his career – one of the key talents in the transformation of the New York Latin sound in the early 60s, and still equally vibrant in his work for the younger generation too! The album's got that cool, cooking ... CD

An unusual self-produced effort from Hector Lavoe – but a record that's every bit as strong as his other solo records from the time! Of course, Hector's got some big help on the record from Louie Ramirez and Jose Febles – who most likely did most of the arranging work, and ensure that ... CD

What can we say? This is the ultimate Miles Davis album – the one that includes so many songs that we've heard way too much in Starbucks, in retail stores, or at a friend's house who claims to be a "jazz expert", but is really a yuppie dilettante. Yet somehow, over all the years, ... CD
