Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Stanley Turrentine

Cherry (Japanese pressing)
CTI/King (Japan), 1972. Used
One of the best CTI albums from the early 70s – and one of Stanley Turrentine's funkiest records as well! The album's got a sharper edge than most other Turrentine albums of the time – a quality that goes beyond Stan's already soulful approach to the tenor, and which brings in some ... CD

Joe Zawinul

Dialects
CBS, 1986. Used
Music for solo synthesizers and voices, all composed and performed by Zawinul, with guest vocalist Bobby McFerrin, and ensemble that includes Carl Anderson, Dee Dee Bellson, and Alfie Silas. CD
CTI/Epic, 1970. Used
Amazing work from Freddie Hubbard – one of his best albums ever! The title cut's a classic, but all cuts on the album are great – and really set a whole new standard for soul jazz in the 70s! Unlike the freer runs of Miles Davis, Freddie takes things into territory here that's open, ... CD
CTI, 1974. Used
An excellent little live set from Deodato – hard to believe because the sound's just as tight and funky as his studio albums, and possibly even more interesting because he manages to pull it off equally well in a live setting! The record features percussion by Airto, guitar by John Tropea, ... CD
CBS/Mosaic, Late 70s. Used 3CDS
Some of the hippest jazz recorded for a major label in the 70s – sublime spiritual jazz sides from the great Woody Shaw! Features the full albums Rosewood, Woody III, For Sure, and United. CD

Freddie Hubbard

Straight Life
CTI, 1970. Used
An amazing second CTI set from Freddie Hubbard – one that takes off nicely from Red Clay territory, and starts to hit an even funkier mode! The tracks here are all relatively long, with a huge amount of solo space for Freddie on trumpet, Joe Henderson on tenor, George Benson on guitar, and ... CD

Wes Montgomery

Day In The Life
CTI/A&M, 1967. Used
Mindblowing! This is when Wes Montgomery really starts to get interesting to us – when he's working with a top-line arranger like Don Sebesky, crafting some incredibly compelling chords over lightly jazzy arrangements and soaring strings, in a whole new mode of expression that would go onto ... CD

Johnny Hodges

Hodge Podge
Epic/CBS, Late 30s/Late 50s. Used
An excellent collection of early work recorded under Johnny Hodges' name in the early years – sessions from 1938 and 1939 that were originally issued on 78s, but presented here in a classic Columbia LP! The tracks are a great assortment of small group numbers that focus on Hodges' tremendous ... CD

Ernie Watts/Gilberto Gil

Afoxe
CTI, 1991. Used
Featuring Jack DeJohnette on percussion. CD
CBS/Sony (Japan), 1978. Used

Clark Terry with Al Grey

Shades Of Blues
Challenge/Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1994. Used
Late work from trumpeter Clark Terry, but the kind of record that really lives up to his long legacy of specially-shaped sounds from his instrument – matched here by superb work from Al Grey on trombone! Terry always has this great way of evoking a mouthy, gritty vibe from his horn, while ... CD

Louis Hayes

Exactly Right
Savant, 2023. Used
Louis Hayes is not just a great drummer, he's also a hell of a leader too – the kind that always seems to know how to pick the right players for a really special sort of sound – and create a vibe that really sets his records apart from the rest! That quality is definitely in place here ... CD
