cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Amazing! Although this album's a soundtrack to some goofy California surfer film, it's actually a killer batch of off-kilter jazz tracks composed by Bud Shank, and with a sound that's unlike anything we've ever heard from him! The frontline of the session is Shank, Bob Cooper, and Carmell Jones ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great little album by Bud – simple, clean, understated, and as strong a document of his powers on alto and flute as you'll ever find! The mid 50s session features Bud with a quartet that includes Claude Williamson on piano, Chuck Flores on drums, and Don Prell on bass – and the ... LP, Vinyl record album
Groovy set of soul jazz organ tracks that has Groove playing with a large-ish group that includes George Freeman, Tom Scott, Anthony Ortega, Wilton Felder, and Paul Humphrey. The set's not totally hard and funky, but it's got a nice soulful swinging groove, with a tight LA 60s sound to it. ... LP, Vinyl record album
A fantastic return to the Braziliance territory crafted by these two legendary musicians – Bud Shank blowing alto over bossa-styled arrangements from Laurindo Almeida – in a manner that was years ahead of similar work by Stan Getz and others! LP, Vinyl record album
Way nicer than some of Milt's earlier work – and one of the gems he recorded with bassist Ray Brown during the late 60s. The group's got a tight soul jazz stepping groove – with Monty Alexander on piano, comping along right over Ray's warm basslines in a very tasty way. Teddy Edwards ... LP, Vinyl record album
A wonderful record – the first of only a few from this unique group that featured Buddy Montgomery on vibes, Monk Montgomery on electric bass, Richie Crabtree on piano, and Benny Barth on drums! The lineup's a bit like that of the Modern Jazz Quartet in the 50s, but the sound is something ... LP, Vinyl record album
These tracks were originally recorded at The Haig in Los Angeles in 1953 and reissued here as part of Liberty's Jazz Milestones Series. Konitz plays alto, Mulligan is on baritone, Chet Baker plays trumpet, Larry Bunker is on drums and Carson Smith and Joe Mondragon play bass. Tracks include " ... LP, Vinyl record album
A very unique album by Curtis Fuller – quite different than any of his other records at the time! The session has Curtis blowing on tunes from the score to Cabin In The Sky – arranged by Manny Albam, and performed by a large group that includes Freddy Hubbard, Hank Jones, and Bob ... LP, Vinyl record album
An overlooked gem from pianist Junior Mance – and maybe one of the most old school records he cut in the 80s! The set's a no-nonsense, soul-drenched session that maybe feels more like Prestige Records' soul jazz years than you might expect, given the date – with Mance on piano in a ... LP, Vinyl record album
A great Crusaders album – and one that's a perfect bridge between their earlier soul jazz styles, and their tighter funkier electric one. The record was recorded live at the Roxy, and the group is augmented by Larry Carlton on guitar, who gives the tracks a nice razor edge at his best ... LP, Vinyl record album
