❔
A collection of 16 recordings mostly from 1936, with Herman Autrey, Gene Sedric, Al Casey, Charles Turner, and Slick Jones.  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Vintage Series pressing, still sealed with two cutout notches. Shrinkwrap has light wear, hole at the bottom right corner, and an RCA Experience sticker in back.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

RCA, 1952. Very Good
Rare pre-Verve material from the great Oscar Peterson – a host of early tracks recorded for RCA in the 50s! Live Oblivion Vol 1
RCA, 1974. Near Mint-
Really hard-jamming work from keyboardist Brian Auger – the first of a 2-part live set from the US, and easily some of his greatest work on record! The tracks are all very long and stretched out here – an extrapolation of the territory Auger was already exploring on studio sides, taken ... LP, Vinyl record album

Rod Levitt Orchestra

Insight
RCA, 1965. Very Good+
Tight hard swinging big band set, with really complicated arrangements and some great writing. Not all of the players are names you'll recognize, but Levitt's talent for arrangement and leadership ensure a tight tight band, and the album wails nicely. Tracks include "Stop Those Men!", ... Forty-Second Street

Gene Ammons

Boss Is Back!
Prestige, 1969. Very Good
A great comeback for tenor legend Gene Ammons – not just in a musical sense, but also because Jug had spent most of the past few years in prison – as part of the usual trumped-up drug charges that were filed against musicians at the time! At the time of this album, Ammons had not ... LP, Vinyl record album
