Righteous work from a young Kalaparusha – easily one of the most spiritual players of his generation in the Chicago AACM – and a player who seems to single-handedly point the way towards the sound of jazz in the 70s! This crucially overlooked album is a tremendous musical statement – a key bridge between the avant experiments of the 60s ESP and Impulse Records artists, and the looser, freer sounds that would emerge in the loft jazz scene of the 70s. McIntyre's got a warmth and organic approach to the music that's a fair bit different than some of his Chicago contemporaries – a sense of open-handed exploration that allows equal space from all collaborators – almost reviving the spirit of the "new thing" generation, but with the bolder sense of freedoms that were just beginning to emerge in jazz. Kalaparusha plays tenor, clarinet, flute, and bells – and other players on the date include Fred Hopkins on bass, Sarnie Garrett on guitar, and Wesley Tyus on drums – plus Rita Omolokun on vocals, singing wordlessly on a few tracks. Titles include "Behold God's Sunshine", "Fifteen Or Sixteen", "Ananda", "Twenty One Lines", and "Sun Spots".
