A great little 80s album by Manny Oquendo's Libre group – recorded after their classic Salsoul LPs, but every bit as great! The group are in incredible form – very tight, with loads of jazzy touches, and an approach to the groove that won't quit. Players include Andy Gonzalez, Jerry Gonzalez, Steve Turre, Dave Valentin, and Milton Cardona – and the tracks are all long enough to allow the players plenty of space to express themselves. Arrangements are by Marty Sheller, Andy Gonzalez, and Manny Oquendo – and tracks include "Que Humanidad", "Elena Elena", "Bailala Pronto", "Llora Timberto", and a great version of "Little Sunflower".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Jose Piliche Elicier & La Nueva Explosion

La Nueva Explosion
Cotique, Late 60s. Used
A killer group with a very soulful feel! We know little about Jose and his hot little combo, but they groove in a way that takes all the nice downtempo chords of the Latin Soul years and mixes them with a harder percussive 70s salsa style! Jose "Piliche" Elicier leads the group and ... CD

An incredible record and very unique – cut around the same time as Arsenio's rare boogaloo album for Tico Records! Like that session, this one has a style in which Arsenio is featured in a larger group – playing with a raspy edge that really steps out in front of the fuller instruments ... CD

Fantasy, 1961. Used
2 of Joe Loco's best albums (Pachanga With Joe Loco and Going Loco) compiled together on one double-length CD by Fantasy! The Pachanga album has (as you might expect) a good set of Pachanga grooves with Joe on piano, Mongo Santamaria on conga, and Willie Bobo on timbales. Going Loco is a bit more ... CD
