✈

Wonderful soul from the Chicago scene of the 70s – some great lesser-known gems by some of the biggest artists to bubble up on the Windy City scene of the 60s, represented here by some beautifully mature work! Most of the cuts on the set are from the later Chi-Soul label, run by the mighty Carl Davis – but there's also a handful from earlier years on Brunswick, that important imprint in shaping the sound of Chicago in the late 60s and early 70s. The set list is a great mix of obscure numbers and a few better-known cuts – and titles include "I Love You" by Otis Leavill, "What Goes Up" by Tyrone Davis, "Windy City Theme" by Windy City Orchestra, "Love Uprising" by Mr T, "Honey Babe" by Ginji James, "Fool Or Your Man" by Windy City, "Does She Have A Friend For Me" by Gene Chandler, "Once You Fall In Love" by Eddie McLoyd, "It Only Happens" by Jackie Wilson, "I Did It" by Barbara Acklin, "Stop I Don't Need No Sympathy" by Lyn Roman, "This Love Is Real" by The Promises, "All I Want To Do" by The Impressions, "You Don't Have To Go" by The Chi-Lites, "I'll Be Right Here" by Mighty Doug Haines, and "Sweeter As The Days Go By" by Major Lance.  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Mr Bongo (UK), 1970s/2007. Used
A great reworking of the classic Brazilian Beats series – one that features 32 tracks from the previous 6 volumes, all selected and remixed live by Phat Kev! The package is kind of a Brazilian mixtape overall – of the sort that were floating around a few years back in the underground, ... CD
Goldmine/Soul Supply (UK), 1970s. Used
Second great volume in Goldmine's Sound of Funk series, with cuts by Lee Austin, BW Souls, Billy Baron, The Gaturs, Mr. C, and more. 19 tracks in all, and solidly funky all the way through! Fantastic funky grooves, with loads of classic stuff, and nearly an hour's worth of hard hard hard funk ... CD
BGP (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. Used
Heavy funk galore – and easily one of the best titles in the massive Super Funk series! This one seems to go deeper than all the previous volumes – really digging down for some obscure tracks that push past the obvious funky 45 standards, to include some lost gems from rare sources in ... CD
Light In The Attic, Late 60s/Early 70s. Used
A mindblowing musical discovery – funky music made in Canada by ex-patriot Jamaicans – easily some of the most obscure post-colonial grooves we've ever dug! The sound here is a lot less reggae-based than you'd expect – as most of the tunes are in a really nitty gritty funky 45 ... CD

Includes cuts from Jazz Not Jazz Massive, DJ Krush & Toshinori Kondo, Lonnie Liston Smith, Dubonikes, and the Soul Society featuring Roy Ayers. CD

Graham Central Station

Ain't No Bout-A-Doubt It
Warner, 1975. Used
One of the high points of Larry Graham's career – a hard-jamming set of guitar-based funk that forever put Graham Central Station on the map! There's a virtuosity to the record that's really stunning – bass, guitar, and drums all dropping into place magically alongside one another ... CD

Parliament

Trombipulation
Casablanca, 1980. Used
Often overlooked, but a very tasty album of late grooves from Parliament – not as much of a major hit as their previous records, but maybe even better because of that! The album's got the group's sound merging a bit with the Funkadelic vibe – that post-psych style of the George Clinton ... CD
