Milton (1976)

CD (Item 528146) A&M/Verve, 1976 — Condition: Used

CD

Great session cut by Milton in the US, with a feel that's similar to Courage, his other great US/A&M album, done in the late 60s. The sound here's a bit more modern than that one, and the group is graced by some excellent guests, like Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Airto, Raul De Souza, and Toninho Horta. Tracks include "Raca", "The Call", "Os Povos", and a nice remake of the classic "Cravo E Canela". (Out of print. Barcode has a cutout mark.)  © 1996-2017, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

Killer stuff by Milton – and his first recorded session ever! The record's incredible, and is every bit as great as his more famous records from 1969 and 1970. The style is similar to those – with Milton's soulful voice ringing out among large baroque arrangements, filled with warmth, ... CD

Dreamy bossa pop from the A&M studios of the 60s – the Brasil 66 sound at its best! The style here is a perfect blend of real Brazilian influences and some of the hipper styles bubbling in the LA studio scene of the time – all locked together perfectly by Sergio Mendes, in the twin- ... CD

One of Maria Bethania's great collaborations with arranger Jaime Alem – an artist we loved as part of the team of Jaime & Nair back in the 70s, and who's really helping Bethania find some deeper space here in the middle years of her career! At a time when Maria had moved into some of the ... CD

One of the earliest of the classic Verve bossa nova sessions of the 60s – and a wonderful showcase for the talents of guitarist Luiz Bonfa! Most of Bonfa's previous recordings were done in a very spare or solo mode – and this set makes a nice change by adding in some larger ... CD

Incredibly great work from Toninho Horta – especially considering that the album's a US release from the early 90s! Horta's working here in a tight trio with Gary Peacock on bass and Billy Higgins on drums – both players we can trust to keep things real, and help Toninho hit a groove ... CD

A great later album from Joao Donato – one that almost took the world by surprise when it was released, as it came after a long period of silence from the bossa legend! The set's got a mellow-grooving feel that's definitely rooted in bossa, with a touch of jazz – modernized slightly, ... CD

A wonderful album by one of the all-time greats! The record is Joao Gilberto's best in years, and it was produced by Caetano Veloso – in a spare, stripped-down style that's very similar to Joao's classic self-titled album from 1973, with an equally moody sound overall! Veloso used some ... CD
