This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap.
We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't
look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time,
we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape —
which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be
torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played,
the record will still qualify as "Sealed".
Condition Notes
If something is relevant, we try to describe it in the notes — especially
if it is release or pressing details,
or an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Sharp-edged tenor genius from Flip Phillips – and a great illustration of why he was one of the key early stars in Norman Granz' Verve empire! The tracks here are short but hard jamming – with equal contributions from players who include Charlie Shavers on trumpet, Oscar Peterson on ... LP, Vinyl record album
Flip blows it mean and lean – on a tasty 10" LP that combines a number of late 40s sessions recorded for Norman Granz, and packages the whole thing in a totally cool David Stone Martin cover! Players include Howard McGhee, Benny Green, Hank Jones, and Max Roach – really blowing ... LP, Vinyl record album
Classic work by one of the biggest players of the early Verve years – the incredible Flip Phillips, a very swinging tenor player! The album's got Flip working with a larger group – billed as an "orchestra", but really a septet, with players that include Bill Harris, Billy ... LP, Vinyl record album
Beautiful solo work from pianist Sal Mosca – an under-acknowledged genius for mixing modern and lyrical modes! The set was recorded in Sal's own studio in the late 70s – you can't get more intimate than that – but there's a freely expressive quality that's really amazing, and ... LP, Vinyl record album
Not as much of a party as you might expect from the title, but quite a lively little album – and possibly one of Zoot's best from the 70s! There's a tightly fluid feel to this record that we really love a lot – not one that's electric or slick, but served up by a great backing trio ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the most gimmicky cover images ever used to sell the music of Thelonious Monk (and Monk himself hated the image) – but a key classic from his legendary years at Columbia Records! The album's got an edge that definitely lives up to its title – even if the cover photo is a bad ... LP, Vinyl record album
Early 60s magic from Horace Silver – working here at the height of his youthful powers! The album's a perfect example of the sound that Silver created while at Blue Note – a lyrically melodic approach to soul jazz, but one that was able to open up the rhythms past stock riffs and ... LP, Vinyl record album
A tight swinger from Sonny Stitt – one of the standout 60s dates he recorded for the Impulse label, a place where he seemed to get even more care and focus in the studio! The record's got all the soulful swing of Stitt's classics for Roost, but also hits a slightly more lyrical groove at ... LP, Vinyl record album
Very cool session recorded in the 60's, and also issued under the title Dimensions & Extensions. Herbie Hancock and Paul Chambers team up with Latin percussionists Willie Bobo and Osvaldo "Chihuahau" Martinez for a set of long improvised tracks in which Herbie states a basic line, ... LP, Vinyl record album
Although Gil Evans is probably best remembered for his work behind Miles Davis, the albums he cut on his own are actually even more interesting, and feature a far-reaching conception of modern jazz, executed by Evans, and some of the top players of his day. This great album from 1964 features a ... LP, Vinyl record album
A classic set of Verve tracks, arranged by the great Ralph Burns, very much in the same style as his work on the legendary Jazz Scene set. The set's far from a "soloists with strings" snoozer, and features some stunningly edgey arrangements by Burns, with purposefully off-kilter ... LP, Vinyl record album
