Two's Company

LP (Item 527397) Inner City, 1974 — Condition: Sealed

Wonderfully intimate piano from Joe Albany – with only the bass of Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen for accompaniment!  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Shrinkwrap has sticker remnants.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Charlie Mariano

October
Contemp/Inner City, 1977. Very Good+
An icy set of tunes from Charlie – recorded in Germany with one of his electric 70s ensembles. Rainer Brunighaus plays a host of keyboards, Barre Phillips plays bass, and the album sports some tabla and percussion from Trilok Gurtu. The overall sound is pretty nice – tightly jamming ... John Stowell

Golden Delicious
Inner City, 1977. Near Mint-
A beautiful little fusion set from guitarist John Stowell – one that dances along at a really breezy pace, thanks to a nice "bottom" from drummer Billy Hart and percussionist Dom Um Romao! Eric Dolphy

Berlin Concerts
Inner City, 1961. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold
Wonderful work by Dolphy – as essential to his catalog as any of his albums on Prestige from the same time! Steeplechase/Inner City, 1972. Near Mint-

Cecil Taylor

Dark To Themselves
Inner City, 1976. Very Good+
One of Cecil Taylor's most spiritual sessions of the 70s – a live set recorded in Yugoslavia in 1976, and done with this really open sound, but one that comes as much from the horns as it does from Cecil's piano! In fact, we might well say that the horns are the best attraction here – ... LP, Vinyl record album

David Friedman

Futures Passed
Inner City, 1976. Sealed
One of the coolest, grooviest albums we've ever heard from vibist Dave Friedman – a set that really lives up to the promise we sometimes expect from other records of his, but never find this clearly! Friedman plays both marimba and vibes – the latter with this bold, chromatic quality ... LP, Vinyl record album

Ken McIntyre

Home (US pressing)
Inner City, 1976. Very Good+

Firm Roots (Inner City)
Inner City, 1976. Near Mint-
A great little album from Clifford Jordan – one of a number of very hip sessions he cut in the mid 70s, working with his Magic Triangle group that included Cedar Walton on piano, Sam Jones on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums. Inflated Tear
Atlantic, 1968. Near Mint-
A landmark album from Roland Kirk – one of his key 60s sides for Atlantic records, and an amazing blend of soul jazz, hardbop, and freer thinking styles! Marion Brown

Why Not?
ESP, 1968. Near Mint-
Brilliant early work by Marion Brown – both soulful and adventurous, less "out" than some of the other ESP albums from the time – and more in the post-Coltrane spirit of work by Pharoah Sanders and some of the Strata East crowd. The group on the album is a quartet – ... LP, Vinyl record album
