Morris Day at the height of his 80s fame – working away from The Time, but in a groove that's still got plenty of Minneapolis funk! The production's a bit more souped up than before – in that super-tight way that both Day and Prince had of wrapping the basslines around the keyboards, and sending the whole thing over the top – beating the rhythms with a splashy sort of sound that spreads out nicely between the speakers! And Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis help out a bit on production, too – furthering that sound even more – and ensuring that the album's got plenty of hook-heavy numbers for the crossover scene.
