Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

You gotta love the confidence in Blakey's title for this one – because even in the late 70s, over 20 years since starting the Jazz Messengers, he was still very much in his prime! The album has him working with a wonderful group that includes Bobby Watson, Curtis Fuller, David Schnitter, and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Richie Cole is a player who really opens up in a live setting – drawing on decades of bop inspiration, and also moving into some hipper 70s-styled grooves as well! This set really shows that aspect of Cole's work – as it's got Richie working with an ensemble that matches his sense of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Muse, 1984. Near Mint-
The title's an apt one, as the set's a great batch of back-to-basics work from Larry Coryell – a player who first started out bold and strong in the 60s, and never really had a time to lay back in a more relaxed set like this! There's still a spacious approach that really marks the Coryell ... LP, Vinyl record album

Although Sonny Phillips was one of the funky organ players to record for Prestige during the classic jazz funk years, by the time of this recording, he'd emerged as a more spiritual talent, with a looser, freer approach, and a much more open-ended vibe. This 1976 session is a good example of that ... LP, Vinyl record album

A late date for Woody Shaw, but a great one too – a bit more straightforward than some of his more righteous albums of the 70s, but still proof that Shaw is easily one of the greatest trumpeters of his generation! Muse, 1974. Very Good+
Nice little groover with a real Strata East soul jazz kind of feel, featuring the great Ronnie Matthews on piano, plus Charles Davis on baritone, and Gerald Hayes on alto. Hayes, Davis, and trumpeter Tex Allen all contribute tracks, including "Brothers & Sisters", "Olea", ... LP, Vinyl record album

A great Kenny Barron side for Muse, one of the best from a label that has a lot of remarkable sleepers! Like the best Muse sides, this set does a great job of straddling the line between forward looking modal playing and relaxed soul jazz, combining the best elements of both. And as you might ...
