Our New Nellie

LP (Item 524521) Liberty, 1956 — Condition: Very Good

A bit different than the early R&B work of Nellie Lutcher, but great too – a unified album of jazzy material, cut with backings by the great Russ Garcia! Titles include "It Had To Be You", "Three Little Words", "Blue Skies", "You Made Me Love You", and "Sunny Side Of The Street".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Nellie Lutcher

Real Gone!
Capitol, 1950s. Very Good+
A bit jazz, a bit R&B, and swingin all the way through – the great Nellie Lutcher was one of the better singers of her generation, and it's a darn shame that she's not as well remembered as some of her other postwar musical contemporaries. This set was cut for Capitol during the early ... LP, Vinyl record album

Yummy Yummy Yummy
Liberty, 1969. Very Good+
A very unusual album for Julie London – one of her few recordings ever to break the more traditional jazz format, and go for a mod sort of swinging 60s sound! The set features London versions of hits by The Doors, Beatles, Monkees, and others – all given a gentle groove by Tommy Oliver ... LP, Vinyl record album

Liberty, Mid 40s. Very Good
Great early work from Kay Starr – a singer who cut plenty of pop in the 50s, but who's working in much jazzier territory on this material from the mid 40s! The sides were all originally issued as 78rpm singles, and later put together as the full LP pictured on the cover – and Starr's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Whatever Julie Wants
Liberty, 1961. Very Good+
Money, minks, and a diamond tiara – whatever Julie wants, it's pretty well laid out in the album's cover image! The set's a slinky swinger that definitely follows in the spirit of the title track "Whatever Lola Wants" – that postwar vampy sort of groove that Peggy Lee was ... LP, Vinyl record album
Liberty, 1959. Near Mint-
Old songs, but swung the Julie London way – and given a really cool feel here, thanks to jazzy backings from the great Jimmy Rowles! The group's clearly got some key west coast hornmen in the lineup – as some points feature some standout sax or trumpet bits that really help flavor the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Verve, 1955. Near Mint-
One of the first "adult" albums by a young Toni Harper – first known as a child sensation in the 40s, but stepping out nicely as a torchy vocalist in the 50s! The album's got a really great, really mellow Verve approach – laidback, late nite jazz instrumentation – ... LP, Vinyl record album
