70s work from Evans, caught not in his typical solo or trio setting, but in an all star quintet that recalls his excellent Interplay sides. Fantastic stuff – and one of our favorite lost sessions from the 70s! The album's a completely unique work by pianist Bill Evans album – one that features him playing both electric and acoustic piano over stunning arrangements by Claus Ogerman! A great early album from San Francisco guitarist Eddie Duran – a player who's not that well known outside of his native city, but who's been a key contribution to the SF scene for many many years! Way nicer than some of Milt's earlier work – and one of the gems he recorded with bassist Ray Brown during the late 60s. A brilliant mix of jazz and world music! Abdul-Malik was the legendary bass player from the fifties who mixed straight jazz playing with traditional Middle Eastern rhythms – and although he most famously recorded albums with Monk as a regular bassist, his albums on his own are amazing ... A nice hardbop revival session for Clifford Jordan – recorded with a style that takes us back to his first years on wax – with an excellent lineup, and a very strong focus on the dynamic of the ensemble!
