About Love

LP (Item 523080) Columbia, 1980 — Condition: Near Mint-
Gladys Knight with Ashford & Simpson – a perfect pairing of two post-Motown talents! Gladys Knight & The Pips are one of those groups that never stopped being great – and later albums like this are well worth tracking down, especially with the team of Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson making the quartet sound so great! As before, Gladys' lead vocals are tremendous – deeply soulful and always personal, quite far from any easy cliches – and supported wonderfully by the three male voices of The Pips. The Ashford & Simpson groove really helps keep things fresh, too – and the set's got a nice balance of uptempo cuts and some of the heartfelt mellow numbers Gladys always does so well. Titles include "Landlord", "Taste Of Bitter Love", "Get The Love", "Friendly Persuasion", "We Need Hearts", and a great reading of the club classic "Bourgie Bourgie".  © 1996-2022, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has a small sticker.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

I Feel A Song
Buddah, 1974. Near Mint-
Rock-solid Buddah work from Gladys Knight & The Pips – still pretty righteous on the vocal tip, but often a bit fuller and more polished than before! Nitty Gritty
SOUL, 1969. Very Good
One of our favorite albums by Gladys Knight – a set that seems to have a lot more edge than some of her later work, thanks to some rumbling production from the legendary Norman Whitfield! Gratitude
Columbia, 1975. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
Great stuff! Although a live album, Gratitude is one of Earth Wind & Fire's greatest from the mid 70s – a very tight batch of grooves that proves that Maurice White & Co. could play just as well on stage as they could in the studio – and the noise of the crowd going wild is ... Marvin Gaye's last album ever – and a sensuous batch of grooves that almost return him to the sound of Let's Get It On! Electric Universe
Columbia, 1983. Very Good+ Gatefold
The title's no joke, as Earth Wind & Fire are definitely part of the electric universe of early 80s Columbia Records – the galaxy that also includes Herbie Hancock during his electro years! Genius, pure genius! It was hard for Earth, Wind & Fire to go wrong at this point – and the album's a stellar blend of jazz, funk, and soul, all done in that perfect style they'd hit by the mid 70s.
