Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Peter Tosh

Mystic Man
Rolling Stones, 1979. Very Good+
A great late 70s album from former Wailer Tosh, to our ears a good bit better than Bush Doctor, the set that had preceded it. We're guessing that has a lot to do with the smoking Word, Sound & Power band Tosh recruited to deliver the chugging riddims underneath his militant lyrics, which ... LP, Vinyl record album

Farover
Heartbeat, 1982. Very Good+
A later effort from Winston Rodney, and though not quite up to the high standard he'd set in the early and mid 70s, still very solid roots rock. 9 self produced tunes, including the title track, "Image", "Education", "She's Mine", "Message" and "Jah Is ... LP, Vinyl record album

Birth Of A Legend (2LP version)
Calla, 1960s. Very Good+ 2LP
Early, early Coxsone Dodd produced sides of groovy rocksteady, voiced by a young Bob Marley with Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. While we don't find this material nearly as compelling as his later work produced by Lee Perry and then his huge international hits, it's great Studio One rocksteady and an ... A fantastic record by one of the great lost trumpet talents of the 60s – and a key album on the Chicago scene of the time too! Orlando Marin

Out Of My Mind
Brunswick, Late 60s. Near Mint-
A Latin Soul classic – but one that's a lot more obscure than some of the better-remembered albums on Fania and Tico from the late 60s! Orlando Marin is probably mostly known as an arranger, and a leader from the earlier years of the New York scene – but during the Latin Soul years he ... LP, Vinyl record album
