(NOTE – Plays with noise and crackles. Labels have some peeling, flaking, and marker.)
A record that you'd buy to play, cheap, but which you wouldn't buy for collecting.
Will have marks across all parts of the playing surface,
and will most likely play with surface noise throughout.
May have some other significant flaws, such as residue, or a track that skips.
In most cases, a poor quality copy of a very difficult to find record.
Additional Marks & Notes
If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
"Memphis Soul Stew" is one of King Curtis' best-ever tracks, with a deep bassy groove, cool spoken bits, and a tight funky drum sound all the way through. Great stuff – and the kind of funky "hit" that we still dig year after year! 7-inch, Vinyl record
"Falling In Love" is a nice sweet soul cut with a slow tempo, and has sort of a Brunswick soul sound to it. We don't know much about these guys, and have never seen an album by them, so this might be the only track out there. 7-inch, Vinyl record
A very deep, very hard soul single! Big strings grace the dope groove of the intro, and give the whole thing sort of a Blacksploitation feel, then Chuck Bernard kicks in with soulful vocals, on a nice Chicago thing that's got sort of an early Leroy Hutson feel. 7-inch, Vinyl record
Wicked heavy funk – one of those obscure numbers that's always stayed with us! The track's got a jaunty little groove – started off by a stepping, scratching guitar – then rolling into a heavy vamp with a lot of organ on the bottom! The tune kind of cooks and bubbles on its own ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
A classic if there ever was one – a seminal 70s soul track, covered by many, and featuring the classic "diamond in the back" line! Sad thing is, everyone always thinks it's Curtis Mayfield – but it's William, and even better than Curtis! Part 2 is a nice instrumental ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
Monster funk – and one of the all-time great funky 45s! "Jan Jan" has this sinister mix of horns and organ that's never been duplicated again – one that pounds away for a very unique intro, before guitar twangs in and sets the whole thing rocking! "Girl From Kenya" ... 7-inch, Vinyl record
