Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Aki Takase & David Murray

Blue Monk
Enja (Germany), 1991. Used
One of the most striking albums we've ever heard from pianist Aki Takase – in large part because of some great work from David Murray on tenor sax – and some especially nice bass clarinet! The album's from a moment when it seemed as if duo modes were some of the best for Murray – ... CD

Allen Lowe & Roswell Rudd

Woyzeck's Death
Enja (Germany), 1995. Used
Allen Lowe on tenor saxophone, Roswell Rudd on trombone, Randy Sanke on trumpet, Ben Goldberg on clarinet & bass clarinet, Andy Shapiro on piano & synthesizer, Jeff Fuller on bass & Ray Kaczynski on drums. CD

Cecil Taylor

Dark To Themselves
Enja/Blue Moon, 1976. Used
One of Cecil Taylor's most spiritual sessions of the 70s – a live set recorded in Yugoslavia in 1976, and done with this really open sound, but one that comes as much from the horns as it does from Cecil's piano! In fact, we might well say that the horns are the best attraction here – ... CD

Afonso Pais Trio

Subsequencias
Enja (Germany), 2008. Used
Afonso Pais on guitars, Carlos Barretto on double bass, Alexandre Frazao on drums featuring Edu Lobo on vocals on two tracks. CD

Tracks include "Wyrglyu", "Evanescence", "Gumba Blue", and "Gush". CD

Hannibal Marvin Peterson

Hannibal In Antibes
Enja (Germany), 1977. Used
A classic live set from trumpeter Marvin Hannibal Peterson – done with two side-long tracks that really let the group stretch out in a very spiritual way! The performance was captured at the Antibes festival in 1977 – and Hannibal's leading a relatively stripped-down group – with ... CD
Enja (Germany), 2006. Used
An excellent organ-heavy session from drummer Alvin Queen – one of the hippest cats working in the soul jazz underground, and a player who never fails to deliver great music over the years! This set's even more of a cooker than some of Queen's other recent albums – and features Mike ... CD
Enja/Ward (Japan), 1975. Used
Exactly the kind of session that really lets Pepper Adams show his stuff – full of long, live tracks that really have Adams stretching out on baritone – handling the instrument with soul, depth, and dexterity that might well be unmatched during this point in his career! The quartet ... CD

Crusaders

Southern Comfort
MCA, 1974. Used
A landmark album from The Crusaders – and a set that really has them sweetening up their groove with lots of tasty R&B touches! The guitar's a bit more pronounced in the mix on this one – setting up some tightly funky rhythms that almost seem to free up the horns even more for solo ... CD
Columbia, 1959. Used
What can we say? This is the ultimate Miles Davis album – the one that includes so many songs that we've heard way too much in Starbucks, in retail stores, or at a friend's house who claims to be a "jazz expert", but is really a yuppie dilettante. Yet somehow, over all the years, ... CD

Joshua Redman

Moodswing
Warner, 1994. Used
A real breakout set from the young Joshua Redman – the kind of record that made some mighty big ripples in the jazz world at the time – and which ended up in more record collections than we can count – and for good reason, too! The group's a rock-solid quartet – with Redman ... CD
Blue Note, 1960. Used
A partner album of sorts to Jimmy Smith's classic Midnight Special album – recorded during the same sessions as that one, and also featuring Stanley Turrentine on tenor and Kenny Burrell on guitar! The sound here is almost even more open and stretched out – with only 4 long tracks on ... CD
