Rocking Mr Krupa

LP (Item 521413) Clef, Mid 50s — Condition: Very Good

A killer trio set, with lots of excellent reed work from Eddie Shu!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Heavy black label Clef pressing – with trumpeter logo and deep groove! Cover has some wear with black tape along the top and bottom seams.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Gene Krupa

Drummer Man
Verve, 1956. Near Mint-
Kind of a reprise of earlier days – one that reunites Krupa with Anita O'Day and Roy Eldridge, as the group runs through some material from earlier years. Arrangements are by Quincy Jones, Billy Byers, and Nat Pierce – and the set actually swings more cleanly than some of Krupa's ... LP, Vinyl record album

An unusual Verve date from Roy Eldridge – a sweet 10 inch album that has Roy's trumpet backed by the Oscar Peterson trio – on titles that include "Echoes Of Harlem", "When It's Sleepy Time Down South", "Somebody Loves Me", and "Willow Weep For Me". LP, Vinyl record album

Clef, 1951/1952. Near Mint-
Beautifully spare work from Oscar Peterson – an album that mostly features him in duet formation with Ray Brown's bass, in a style that's got even more space and openness than some of his other Verve sessions from the time. Peterson's got a way around the keys that's amazing even at this ... LP, Vinyl record album
Clef, Mid 50s. Very Good-
Nice, tight, simple, and swinging! All players are hitting a good later stride here, set in unrestricted small group company on the occasion of the film release of the Benny Goodman story. Count Basie

Band Of Distinction
Clef, Early 50s. Very Good
Certainly was the band of distinction – especially at this point, when the group featured players like Frank Foster, Frank Wess, Ernie Wilkins, Marshall Royal, Joe Newman, Thad Jones, Bennie Powell, and Freddie Green. Flip Phillips/Buddy Rich Trio
Clef, Mid 50s. Very Good
Flip Phillips had plenty of great moments on Verve – but some of his best seemed to come when he was working with Buddy Rich, who always seem to spur him on to even greater heights!
