✈

The first album by this excellent southern harmony soul group – recorded in Jackson by Frederick Knight, with a smooth sound that's much more in a Philly modern mode than most other work coming out of the city. These guys are clearly inspired by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes – and have a similar mix of raspy vocals and smoothly grooving backings, and also share the Blue Notes talent for working well on both ballads and uptempo numbers. Titles include "Somebody's Gotta Win", "Heaven Is Only One Step Away", "People Want Music", and "The Reaper".  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Thriller
Reprise/Collectables, 1973. Used
A great later album from this legendary San Francisco crossover soul combo! The set moves off the style of some of their earlier work for Reprise, and Cold Blood are really opening up their sound here – still staying quite soulful, but also going for the fuller finish of the west coast early ... CD

Ohio Players

Ohio Players Gold
Mercury, 1976. Used
A well-titled set – as it's the mid 70s, and the Ohio Players were certainly turning out a lot of gold! Their move to Mercury Records from the smaller indie Westbound was a real winning move – as it gave them a smoother soul feel that only expanded their groove, not restricted it! ... CD
Epic, 1990s. Used
A great look at the post-Motown work of Teena Marie – her 80s years on Epic Records, a time when she was charting big with a wonderfully seductive approach to soul! Marie's definitely in charge of her groove here – writing, arranging, and producing most of the work on the set – ... CD
