Cuban Fantasy (previously unissued)

CD (Item 521244) Fantasy, 1977 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

CD

Beautiful Latin vibes from the great Cal Tjader – 8 long tracks recorded live in 1977, but issued here for the first time ever! The sides on the set rank with Cal's best 70s live work – and feature some sublime electric piano work by Clare Fischer, as well as percussion from a young Poncho Sanchez! The tunes are long, stretched out, and a perfect blend of Cal's older Latin jazz vibe with some sweet 70s electric touches – of the sort we've always dug on his other 70s albums for Fantasy. Titles include "Cuban Fantasy", "Descarga Cachao", "Manuel Deeghit", "Guachi Guara", "Tu Crees Que", and "Silenciosa".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Booklet has minor water damage in one corner.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

A whopping big collection of some of Cal Tjader's best work from his later years – early sides that Cal recorded for Concord Records on the west coast – and material that really marked a revival of his older jazz groove! The style here is free from some of the too-produced modes that ... CD

One of Duke's last albums – and a great one! The session is right up there with some of Ellington's best late "suites" – an extended work that features writing around exotic themes, played by stalwarts like Paul Gonsalves, Harold Ashby, Rufus Jones, Cootie Williams, and Harry ... CD

A very cool date from Duke Ellington – one that's based strongly around the talents of tenorist Paul Gonsalves – always a key member of the Ellington ensemble, and quite a leader on his own in the 60s! The lineup is a familiar version of the Ellington orchestra – but the setting's ... CD

Meet Oliver Nelson
Fantasy/OJC, 1959. Used
Although Nelson went onto become a very successful pop jazz arranger during the 1960s, this early 1959 album features him as a bright new jazz soloist – with a keen talent for blowing the alto with a tone that is at once soulful and lyrical, yet somehow darkly edgey. The session features a ... CD

An album of dark and subtle beauty – and still one of our favorite Miles Davis albums of all time! The set's not as earth-shattering as some of Davis' other work of the 60s, but that's why we like it so much – because the emerging genius of the group with Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, ... CD
