Exotica Vol 2

LP (Item 5206) Liberty, Late 50s — Condition: Very Good+
The second album in Denny's legendary Exotica trilogy – a set of records that provided the extreme definition of the small sub-genre that today has become the stuff of legend! Denny's still working here in his classic format – a small group with heavy piano lines, playful percussion, and some birdcalls sung by the members of the group! The set's a mix of strange songs from strange sources, all given the sublime Denny twist – and titles include "Singing Bamboos", "Escales", "August Bells", "Ebb Tide", "Rush Hour In Hong Kong", and "Soshu Night Serenade".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Martin Denny

Taste Of Honey
Liberty, Mid 60s. Near Mint-
A great later moment from Martin Denny – a set that gave him a big 60s hit in a sweet version of "Taste of Honey"! Denny approaches the tune with all the great mellow moods that Bobby Scott intended – none of the too-fast styles of Hirt, and instead the slow-moving rhythms ... LP, Vinyl record album

Exotica
Liberty, 1957. Very Good+
The birth of a sound and the birth of a legend – Martin Denny's first album in the Exotica series, and a record so great it named an entire genre! Earl Palmer

Drumsville
Liberty, Early 60s. Very Good+
Kick-ass, drum-heavy instrumentals from Earl Palmer – the player who made some of David Axelrod's work sound great in the late 60s, but who's hitting even harder here! The style's a mix of rock instrumental and R&B modes – with pounding drums from Palmer on all numbers, and bits of ... LP, Vinyl record album

Tak Shindo

Mganga!
Edison, Late 50s. Near Mint-
A fantastic bit exotica from Tak Shindo – quite rootsy at times, in a way that really lives up to the cover – and which makes the whole thing a lot more striking than Shindo's other big album on Capitol at the time! The instrumentation is filled with heavy percussion and rhythms, often ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of Arthur Lyman's first LPs –- a brilliant set of percussively grooving tracks, modulated at a low tempo, and recorded in the Henry J.
