...

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Hot Shot (voc, inst)
West End, 1978. Very Good+
Karen's big cut, the only one we'll remember her for, and a big campy track in its day. Served up here on an original West End single, with vocal and instrumental versions both stretching past the 8 minute mark. 12-inch, Vinyl record

Roadrunner, 1981. Very Good (pic cover)
An unlikely, but huge influence on the Chicago and Detroit house scenes of the 80s! Liaisons Dangereuses were a German combo with a sound that was part post-punk, part post-prog – electronic-based music that was somewhere in the neighborhood of Cabaret Voltaire and DAF. And like those two ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Tabu, 1977. Very Good-
Two classic club-driven tunes by this late 70s funk ensemble! "Lovin" is a strong disco number – female vocals in the lead, and lots of swirling grooves that go on for over 7 minutes in this mix! "Stormin" is even better – a funky ensemble tune, with some really ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

Tommy Boy, Early 80s. Very Good-
One of the classic early Tommy Boy twelves – with the great Gwen McCrae sample from "Funky Sensation", and an excellent performance by Bam and the Jazzy 5. The 5 handle rap duties on the "Bronx Version" a-side, with the slight smoother female approach to the vocal handled ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Fresh, 1986. Very Good-
This is Just-Ice's first single, with a track that didn't make it to the LP, plus the original version of "Latoya" that's better than the LP version. Kedar/Universal, 1996. Near Mint-
A great little tune from Erykah Badu – smooth, mellow, with a nice downtempo vibe, but still a warm finish that works perfectly with her voice! This is the kind of tune that made us all fall in love with her right away – and which still sounds great years later! 12-inch, Vinyl record
