One & Only

LP (Item 519950) Buddah, 1978 — Condition: Sealed
The last Buddah Records album from Gladys Knight & The Pips – and a set that's a great summation of all the new territory the group hit with the label! The album's a mix of the mellower ballads that made Gladys one of the biggest female soul singers of the 70s, and some of the upbeat groovers that turned out to be a really great fit for the group's style – a mode that's not really disco, but which offers a strong mix of strings and rhythms. Tony Camillo and Van McCoy both bring some good production elements to the record – and titles include "Sorry Doesn't Always Make It Right", "Come Back & Finish What You Started", "It's A Better Than Good Time", "Saved By The Grace Of Your Love", "Butterfly", and "The One & Only".  © 1996-2023, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Shrink wrap is a bit aged and has a sticker remnant. Cover has a cutout notch.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Wilbert Harrison
Buddah, 1971. Very Good
Wilbert's come a long way from Kansas City here – working with Marshall Sehorn on a set of southern-tinged arrangements, mostly of older R&B classics, done in a hipper crossover 70s mode that also has a bit of New Orleans funk! Buddah, 1976. Near Mint-
LP...$9.99 11.99
A bit of a hit-or-miss smooth soul album from Buddah, but when it hits, it hits! The best cuts have a great East Coast early 70s sound, and nice arrangements by Gene Page with a broad, sweeping feel to them. Jimmy's voice falters a bit from time to time, which gives some of the numbers a bit of a ... LP, Vinyl record album
