Lookin Ahead

A really great record, despite the somewhat mundane cover image – a set that might be more at home on Schema Records than Irma, given its warm jazzy feel and tight modal grooves! Instrumentation is mostly acoustic, although there's a bit of beats in the rhythms too – and the album sparkles wonderfully with jazzy vocals that light things up beautifully! Aaron Tesser leads the group on tenor sax, but the real star to our ears is vocalist Fabrizio Rispoli – who sings on nearly all the tracks, often with a style that's a bit like that of Mario Biondi – soulful and scatting, with echoes of some of our favorite male jazz singers of the 60s and 70s. Elisabeth Geel sings on a few more tracks, with a slightly sweeter female approach, but one that's still quite strong – and other instrumentation includes alto sax, trumpet, guitar, and plenty of great percussion. Titles include "My Song", "Oko Bop", "Instant Love", "Stella", "Everlasting Rose", "You Me & Jazz", "Feel", "Full Sail Soulship", and "Faraway".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

Lonesome Spaceboy
Irma (Italy), 2001. Used
A strange little record that's a bit tough to describe. The theme appears to be 50s space age – but the sound is more of a cartoony remix of some loungey grooves, with a fairly heavy leaning towards more current popular music. There's bits of guitar pop in the set, bits of pop drum n bass, ... CD

A survey of The Music Scene through the eyes, mind and fingers of longstanding hip hop and spacey beatcraft guru Blockhead! Blockhead's way with a sample has been one of the reasons we've been on board so long, and it's as unpretentiously hypnotic as ever here – staying defiantly headnodding ... CD

Count Basie & Sarah Vaughan (with bonus tracks)
Roulette, 1960. Used
Sarah Vaughan gets some backing from Count Basie – making for a record that's one of her jazziest and swinging of the time! As with other Basie-related vocal sessions from the early 60s, this one has a soulful edge and a nice little bounce – one that makes for a more solid approach ... CD
