The album's got a bit of an odd title – as we hardly think that Redman was living on the edge at the time – but it's also a great little set, no matter what the name! Dewey's playing in a soulful and inside mode on most tracks – working in a style that recalls some of Archie Shepp's work of the late 70s – in a group with Geri Allen on piano, Cameron Brown on bass, and Eddie Moore on drums. The set list features Redman originals – including "Boo Boodoop", "Mirror Windows", "Blues for J.A.M.", and "As One" – plus versions of "If I Should Lose You" and Coltrane's "Lazy Bird". © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
