The last remaining treasures from Andrew Hill's legendary years at Blue Note Records – a 3CD collection of incredible work from the late 70s, most of which has never been issued before! 6 of the collection's 31 tracks once appeared on the short-lived One For One reissue in the mid 70s – but the other 25 tracks here are seeing their release for the first time ever – and represent a wealth of genius from pivotal and under-documented years of Hill's career. Recordings are from the years 1967, 1969, and 1970 – with players that include Pat Patrick on flute and saxes, Benny Maupin on flute & saxes, Ron Careter on bass, Robin Kenyatta on alto, Sam Rivers on flute and saxes, Nadi Quamar on thumb piano and percussion, and Teddy Robinson on drums – and Hill plays his usual piano throughout, but also hits the organ on a few of the set's really standout tracks! There's a depth here that goes beyond even most of what we know from Andrew – a sound that's modern, yet often quite soulful – poised nicely between the Passing Ships and Grass Roots years of his career.
