Sea Of Faces

CD (Item 517621) Black Saint (Italy), 1975 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

CD

A great little set from Archie Shepp – one of his strongest of the 70s, and a real return to the kind of spiritual jamming he was doing at the end of his time with Impulse Records! The album's well-known for it's great track "Song For Mozambique" – a spare and righteous number that features Bunny Fox singing in a sweet spiritual mode, while Charles Greenlee and Shepp recite chants over the jamming grooves of the band. Fox also sings on the mellow and soulful "I Know Bout The Life", and the Shepp group picks up a straight but hard mode on Cal Massey's great track "Lookin For Someone To Love". The extended jammer "Hipnosis" takes up all of side one – and it's a great little groover that builds nicely with a comping rhythm, yet which gives the band some nice room to solo in an exploratory fashion. The cut's written by Grachan Moncur III, and has Charles Greenlee blowing trombone in Grachan's place!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Out of print – and still sealed!)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Art Tatum/Ben Webster Quartet
Jazz Beat (Spain), 1953/1954. Used
A historic meeting between pianist Art Tatum and tenor sax giant Ben Webster! At some level, it's clear that Tatum's the star of the session – as most tracks start out with that introspective and often complicated approach to the keys that marks his trio and solo work – but Webster ... CD

Easy Living
ECM (Germany), 2004. Used
A nicely mature album from trumpeter Enrico Rava – one that really explores the space between the notes, and which has Rava in the company of a very well-matched quintet! Enrico always had a sense of "less is more" in his horn, right from the start – but that quality only ... CD
