(Stereo pressing in a textured cover, still sealed with a cutout notch. Shrinkwrap is cracked a bit at the bottom left edge.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

One of our favorite Duke Ellington albums, and a sometimes-overlooked work that stands as one of his best compositions from the time. Duke Ellington

Collages
MPS, 1973. Near Mint-
It's often said that the late material by Duke Ellington is some of his most adventurous and exciting – and with this rare album from 1973 as proof, we'd have to agree! Collages features Duke's piano playing backed by a large symphonic group conducted by Canadian leader Ron Collier. The ... LP, Vinyl record album

Duke Ellington

Symphonic Ellington
Reprise, 1963. Near Mint-
An incredible record – and key proof that Ellington was growing even more in the 60s than he had a decade before! Duke's working here with a core orchestra of his own, plus a huge amount of added players from orchestras in Paris, Hamburg, Stockholm, and Milan – all working together in ... LP, Vinyl record album
Columbia, 1959. Very Good+
One of Duke's standout sides for Columbia during the late 50s wealth of new recordings – a live set recorded at Miami's Bal Masque nightclub. The arrangements are sophisticated, and Duke's piano is hitting that darkly-tinged later style – but the focus is also on danceable arrangements ... LP, Vinyl record album

The album's a bit less "historical" than you might guess from the title – at least at the time it was issued in the mid 50s! The material is from Chicago sessions recorded in 1956 – unusual non-Columbia material for the period, featuring the Ellington group working in a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Swiss Movement
Atlantic, 1969. Near Mint-
The extremely successful union of two of Atlantic's biggest funky jazz stars, caught live in Switzerland, with the amazing Benny Bailey sitting in on trumpet. Atlantic, 1976. Near Mint-
Eddie continues the funky groove begun on Instant Funk, and smoothed out over albums like I Need Some Money – and although jazz fans probably gave him hell for going this way, we think this is actually a pretty darn great album! The record takes all of Eddie's experimentation with groovy ... LP, Vinyl record album

Pat Rebillot

Free Fall
Atlantic, 1974. Very Good+
A really great little album from keyboardist Pat Rebillot – a player you might know from other 70s records with Herbie Mann, and a few other jazz artists – stepping out here as one of his few times as a leader! Pat really makes great use of the space to show off his own thing – ... LP, Vinyl record album
