Triple P

CD (Item 516849) Ubiquity, 2005 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

CD

The long-awaited debut from Platinum Pied Pipers – an incredible set that melds underground soul, deep hip hop, and innovative club groove into a cohesive sound all its own! The PPP is essentially the duo of Waajeed (a founding member of Slum Village and frequent Jay Dee collaborator) and guitar-and-keys wizard Saadiq – who bring in guest vocalists and producers that give the record the appealing sprawl of a tight collective. Like fellow traveler Amp Fiddler, the crew seamlessly mixes a thumping tapestry of styles, and weave it all together in a multi-layered finished pattern that even the most ambitious peers can't touch. A true instant classic that'll be as much of a reference point in the years to come as Jay Dee's earlier efforts – if not more so! Dilla and SA-RA guest on the innovative hip hop styled tracks, as does MCs Invincible and Lacks, but the progressive soul gets intensive focus – with vocals by Tiombe Lockhart and Georgia. Other guests include Spacek, Zeno and Roijer. Essential! 16 tracks on the CD: "Shotgun Intro" and "Act Like You Know" featuring Jay Dee, "Your Day Is Done" feat Georgia, "Deep Inside" featuring S-Ra Creative Partners, "Fever" feat Zeno, "Stay With Me" and "Now Or Never" feat Tiombe Lockhart, "Detroit Winter" feat Invincible, "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" feat Roijer and more!  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

Erykah Badu

Mama's Gun
Universal, 2000. Used

Lizz Wright

Dreaming Wide Awake
Verve, 2005. Used
The second outing from vocalist Lizz Wright – done in the same sweetly folksy style as her debut, but in a way that seems to have even more of a focus overall. The backing on the set is especially nice – mostly just spare keyboards, bass, and drums, plus some great work on acoustic ... CD

Maysa (Maysa Leak)

Maysa
Blue Thumb, 1995. Used
The soulful vocalist of Incognito strikes out on her own – serving up an excellent debut LP! This one's got a bit more of a modern R&B approach than the jazzier work of Incognito – but still stays in the hip London soul mode, thanks to some great production work by Ray Hayden of ... CD

Quiet Power/C Side, 2004. Used
Wayna's as much a poet as she is a singer – and has these wonderfully visual lyrics that are a great contrast to some of the sweeter sounds of the Neo Soul generation! There's a simple, effective power to the set that doesn't really grab you at first listen – mostly because Wayna's ... CD

Excellent compilation that brings together 17 of the best early cuts by this legendary Acid Jazz combo. The BNH were one of the first – and certainly one of the best – groups to wave the flag of the acid jazz movement in the late 80s, and their perfect tight style of jazz funk has gone ... CD
