Keepers Of The Castle – Their Best 1972 to 1978

CD (Item 516792) MCA/ABC, Mid 70s — Condition: Used
$2.99 ...

CD

Great stuff! Although the Four Tops are always best known as a Motown group – they actually manage to do quite well away from the label, and cut some excellent sides for ABC during the mid 70s! This CD brings together 14 of those cuts – including "Are You Man Enough", the great theme to Shaft In Africa, plus other nice ones like "Keeper Of The Castle", "Sweet Understanding Love", "Midnight Flower", "Save It For A Rainy Day", "One Chain Don't Make No Prison", "We All Gotta Stick Together", "I Just Can't Get You Out Of My Mind", and "Catfish".  © 1996-2019, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Out of print.)

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

Hip-O/Motown, 1960s/1970s. Used 2CD
A pretty darn big collection of work from the 4 Tops – one that spans both their Motown and ABC years, and which also throws in some surprising bits that we wouldn't have expected! The set's got a few previously unreleased mixes, but overall, all the material has been out before – just ... CD
AVI/MCA, Late 70s. Used
A nicely priced selection of tracks from the early days of El Coco – back when the group were the unique brainchild of the Rinder & Lewis team, and coming up with some Latin-flavored disco tunes that had plenty of jazzy keyboard riffs! Titles on the set include "Let's Get It ... CD

Winner In You
MCA, 1986. Used
A bit one for Patti Labelle in the 80s – a set that crossed over big at the time, but which still has the lady in very soulful territory! Patti seems to sparkle most here on the mellower cuts – the gentle groovers and laidback ballads that helped open her up to a whole new audience, ... CD

Patti LaBelle

Be Yourself
MCA, 1989. Used
A hit set from the end of the 80s – one that showed Patti still going strong in her third decade in soul music! The set's got a style that's decidedly more modern than some of the classic work we know from Patti – but her vocals are still very strongly in place, and if anything, the ... CD

Sure, you've heard a lot of these cuts a million times – but honestly, it's still great to hear Rufus and Chaka, whatever the setting! The set dips back into the ABC recordings by the group, and features tracks from the years 1974 to 1979. Titles include "You Got The Love", "S ... CD

Ask Rufus
MCA, 1977. Used
One of our favorite albums ever from Rufus and Chaka Khan – a sublime 70s set in which the group's sound totally comes together, and finds a really special sound that's all its own! The blend of elements here is perfect – the group's funky jazz instrumentation, and Chaka Khan's warm ... CD

Earth Wind & Fire

Gratitude
Columbia, 1975. Used
Great stuff! Although a live album, Gratitude is one of Earth Wind & Fire's greatest from the mid 70s – a very tight batch of grooves that proves that Maurice White & Co. could play just as well on stage as they could in the studio – and the noise of the crowd going wild is ... CD
