We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with, so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.

Used Vinyl Grades

Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-") the grading for the vinyl. If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws, these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible for us to listen to each record. If we spot any significant flaws, we make every attempt to listen through them and note how they play.

The following grading conditions apply to the vinyl component of an album or single:

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Senor Tito Rodriguez
Tico, 1958. Near Mint-
An excellent little set from Tito – recorded in the late 50s for Tico, with a groove that's harder than much of his 60s work for United Artists! The lineup includes some nice jazzy vibes work on a few tracks – and the album includes the great percussive track "Suena Tu Bongo (Beat ... LP, Vinyl record album

United Artists, Mid 60s. Near Mint-
Perez Prado turns his talents to a host of 60s soundtrack themes – and comes up with a great new groove in the process! The set's a great illustration of the soundtrack power of the United Artists label in the 60s – home to the James Bond scores and other big hits – yet Prado ... LP, Vinyl record album

United Artists, 1967. Very Good
As the title might imply, this is a varied set of grooves from Latin guitarist Freddie Rodriguez. Some of the tracks are more like pop guitar instrumentals, with an electric 60's feel to them. But the best cuts are some nice Latin groovers, with a good hard sounds from Freddie's guitar, and a ... LP, Vinyl record album

United Artists, 1960. Very Good+
Rare early Charlie Palmieri record, and one of the great Latin records to come out on United Artists in the early 60's. Bobo Motion
Verve, 1967. Very Good+
Bobo Motion is groovy motion – heard here on one of Willie's best albums for Verve from the late 60s – a really unique blend of jazz, Latin, and soul-based rhythms! The set's even tighter than some of Willie's other Verve records – and like the classic Uno Dos Tres, it's got some ... LP, Vinyl record album

New York Now!
Celluloid, 1983. Near Mint-
A stripped-down rootsy session – similar to some of the sparer Afro-Cuban traditionalist sides that were coming out of New York in the early 80s. Ponce put the set together, and other players include Paquito D'Rivera, Jose Trapaga, Joe De Jesus, Nelson Rodriguez, and Bill Laswell. Most ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of those Milestone 70s two-fer sets, filled with Mongo's classic early Latin jazz sides cut for Riverside in the 60s. Time, 1962. Very Good
One of the few albums ever issued as a leader by the great Joe Cain – a wonderful Latin arranger with a really mad ear for a groove!
