Piano Improvisations Vol 2

LP (Item 515660) ECM, 1971 — Condition: Sealed

Beautiful solo piano from Chick Corea – almost in a Keith Jarrett mode on ECM – mostly original improvisations, plus extrapolations on work by Thelonious Monk and Wayne Shorter!  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Sealed US pressing. Cover has a cut corner.)

Sealed

This is what it says, that the record is still held fast in shrink-wrap. We tend to be pretty suspicious about these things, so if the shrink-wrap doesn't look original, or if the record seems to have undergone some damage over time, we'll probably take it out of the wrapper to ensure that it's in good shape — which is why we don't have more of these. In some cases the shrink-wrap may be torn in spots, but if it's not possible the record has been taken out and played, the record will still qualify as "Sealed".

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Chick Corea

Three Quartets
Warner, 1981. Near Mint-
A great straight set from Chick Corea – one that has him playing acoustic piano throughout, and reclaiming some of the bolder jazz territory he first forged in the 60s! The tracks are long and soaring – very soulful in their construction, and played in a dynamic way that's surprisingly ... LP, Vinyl record album

Chick Corea

My Spanish Heart
Polydor, 1976. Very Good+ 2LP Gatefold
Given that Chick Corea first got his start working in the New York Latin scene back in the 60s, the album's a bit of a return to his roots – even if the general theme here is Spanish, and not Afro-Cuban! The Corea Spanish Heart here is cast in some darker, more contemplative tones than more ... LP, Vinyl record album

Oregon

Oregon (1983)
ECM, 1983. Near Mint-
The Oregon sound, still alive and well into the 80s – perhaps given even more room to express itself in an ECM setting like this! The album's a mix of angular notes and warmer tones – very much the experimentalism that the group prided itself on at the time – and which really set ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jack DeJohnette's Directions

Untitled
ECM, 1976. Near Mint-
One of the excellent DeJohnette albums cut for ECM in the mid 70s. He's playing here with John Abercrombie, Alex Foster, Mike Richmond and Warren Bernhardt in an electric setting, and the vibe has the sort of wide open feel that a lot of progressive players were exploring at the time: a sort of ... ECM, 1982. Near Mint-
Mike Nock has always been a pianist with so many varied shades and styles to his talents – and here, he makes a rare ECM appearance in a set that's nicely different from most of his other albums of the 70s – maybe a bit more sensitive at times, but also maybe more freewheeling too ... Nice late 70s work from guitarist Ralph Towner – heard here in a great trio setting with Eddie Gomez on bass and Jack DeJohnette on drums!
