We realize that there are many different interpretations of the standard grades used
for pre-owned vinyl record albums & CD, so we thought we'd offer you the ones that we are working with,
so you have an idea what we mean when we give the grade for a non-new item on our pages.
Used Vinyl Grades
Below are stated conditions for a used vinyl records at Dusty Groove. Grading for
the cover should be assumed to be near (within a "+" or "-")

If there is significant divergence from the condition of the vinyl, or specific flaws,
these will be noted in the comments section of the item. However, please be aware that
since the emphasis of this site is towards the music listener, our main concern is with
the vinyl of any used item we sell. Additionally, please note that all of our records
are graded visually; considering the volume of used vinyl we handle, it is impossible

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially
if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record.
This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip,
cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.
Rare sides by Kenny Burrell – recorded for Blue Note in the 50s, but unissued until the time of this early 80s Japanese-only release! The tracks are pulled from three different sessions, a couple of them live dates, and showcase Burrell in a variety of formats alongside top notch players ... LP, Vinyl record album
Straight, strong, and soulful sounds from guitarist Kenny Burrell – quite possibly one of his best albums of the 60s, thanks to a really well-focused sound throughout! The groove here is nice and tight – a cooking little rhythm section that features Richard Wyands on piano, Martin ... LP, Vinyl record album
A really sweet little album from guitarist Kenny Burrell – one in which he takes older tunes ("a generation ago"), and updates them with a sweetly compressed Verve 60s groove ("today"!) The record features 2 small groups – one with Ron Carter, Grady Tate, and Phil ... LP, Vinyl record album
Great great stuff – and for some folks, THE album by Kenny Burrell! This classic set features the guitarist in a quintet with Stanley Turrentine on tenor, Major Holly on bass, Bill English on drums, and the great Ray Barretto on conga – a really great lineup that sparkles with soulful ... Really early work from the team of Dave Brubeck and Paul Desmond – cut years before their hit fame at Columbia, when Brubeck was first cooking up his modernist combo, and recording for Fantasy Records on the west coast. This harder to find set's got Brubeck mostly working on turning out new ... LP, Vinyl record album
A pretty sweet set of laid-back, mellow-grooving guitar funk tracks. Merl Saunders plays organ and synthesizer, but the real star is Hahn, whose spacey Bay Area guitar mixes together rock, funk, and jazz into a efflorescent blend that's sure to appeal to the more head-driven side of the Fantasy ... A great little Latin session from Cal – recorded with extra percussion from Benny Velarde and Luis Miranda, plus rhythm from the Duran brothers, Manuel (piano) and Carlos (bass). The groove's nice and heavy, pretty driving on most cuts, a perfect foil for Cal's jazzy vibes. Titles include ... LP, Vinyl record album
A classic album from Dave – recorded at Oberlin College, the mid-Ohio haven of bohemiana, and a growing hotbed of jazz activity centered around students in the college's conservatory of music. Dave and crew made the trip at the request of the kids – breaking from their mostly San ... LP, Vinyl record album
Great stuff from the early days of the Brubeck/Desmond alliance – when Dave's piano had first met up with Paul's alto, with incredible results that would soon transform the face of popular jazz. The set's mostly standards – but it does include 2 strong originals, "Crazy Chris" ... LP, Vinyl record album
The Funky Quarters must have been a hell of a place – especially when Cal Tjader was bringing down the house with grooves this great! The record is one of Cal's best electric sides from the 70s – and it boasts some amazing work on Fender Rhodes from Al Zulaica – a player we only ... LP, Vinyl record album
A killer session from Horace's famous quintet that included Blue Mitchell, Junior Cook, Gene Taylor, and Louis Hayes – one of the group's earliest recordings for Blue Note – and also one of their best! The band had a unique mix of rootsy soul jazz playing and more exotic approaches to ... LP, Vinyl record album
One of the few albums ever that has vibist Cal Tjader working with a vocalist – and not a bad idea, either, considering that Cal's cool style always seems to provide a compelling backdrop for a singer! Mary Stallings was a lesser-known west coast vocalist at the time – but she sings ... LP, Vinyl record album
