Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Art Ensemble Of Chicago

Urban Bushmen
ECM, 1982. Used 2 CDs
A live set from 1980 – and one that shows the Art Ensemble still able to capture some of the warmth and imagination from their early years. Most tracks are fairly long, and the group move through their usual panopoly of instruments along the way. Titles include "Urban Magic", " ... CD

Roscoe Mitchell & Note Factory

Far Side
ECM (Germany), 2007. Used
A wonderful live set from the great Roscoe Mitchell and his Note Factory ensemble – recorded live in Burghausen in March of 2007 – exploring space with subtlety and quiet sense of purpose in some movements, and a hard charging intensity in others! The opening 26 minute "Far ... CD

Art Ensemble Of Chicago

Nice Guys
ECM (Germany), 1979. Used
A key later session from the Art Ensemble Of Chicago – a record that gained them global exposure through the ECM label, and which has them working in a beautifully subtle sense of sound, space, and tone! The work is less all-out challenging than some of the group's earliest recordings – ... CD

Art Ensemble Of Chicago

Full Force
ECM, 1980. Used
One of the few ECM sides recorded by the Art Ensemble Of Chicago – easily some of the hippest work the label issued at the time, and a key way for the avant collective to get a bit of large audience exposure! The sound is still very much in the best AEC style here – and if anything, ... CD

Tomasz Stanko

Suspended Night
ECM, 2004. Used
Beautifully introspective work from Polish trumpeter Tomasz Stanko – one of the leading lights of the 60s modern jazz scene that featured Komeda, and still a heck of a compelling artist in his own right! Stanko's tone has a moody, evocative feel that's perfect for the ECM setting of the ... CD
Columbia, 1961. Used
The tenor sax here makes the album a standout – as John Coltrane still works with Miles Davis on 2 tracks for the record, but Blue Note stalwart Hank Mobley joins in on the rest! The approach is similar to that of the classic Coltrane/Davis years – and in a way, the record's kind of a ... CD

Miles Davis

Kind Of Blue
Columbia, 1959. Used
What can we say? This is the ultimate Miles Davis album – the one that includes so many songs that we've heard way too much in Starbucks, in retail stores, or at a friend's house who claims to be a "jazz expert", but is really a yuppie dilettante. Yet somehow, over all the years, ... CD

Sonny Rollins

Newk's Time
Blue Note, 1958. Used
About as classic as you can get for Sonny Rollins during the 50s – from the cover right down to the incredible solos on the set! The album's got Rollins really stretching out – still not finding the freer trio mode of his Vanguard session, but still bringing in plenty of fresh ideas in ... CD
