Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible.

When you purchase a Used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use but if there are significant details or defects we will list them underneath the item — just like we do with LPs — so look there for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details.

All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

Curtis Fuller

South American Cookin'
Epic (Japan), 1961. Used
Not Curtis Fuller in South America, but a record that picks up a very slight Latin vibe in the rhythm – which makes for a nice change from Fuller's sessions for Blue Note! The date was recorded during that great short run of soul jazz cookers on early 60s Epic Records – and is a ... CD
Prestige, 1957. Used
One of Curtis Fuller's most compelling albums from the late 50s – a striking bit of experimentalist modern jazz, quite different from some of his work for Blue Note. The format features Fuller's trombone in the lead, plus alto by Sahib Shihab – and the pair are backed up by a twin ... CD
Savoy/Denon, 1959. Used
Stellar stuff – recorded a few years before Benny Golson started to explore his "jazztet" ideas with Art Farmer, but handled in a very similar mode. The sextet on the session's a crack one – with Charlie Persip, Paul Chambers, and Wynton Kelly on rhythm – and searing ... CD

Art Blakey

Buhaina's Delight
Blue Note, 1961. Used
A landmark recording by a whole new chapter in Art Blakey's career! During the early 60s, Blakey expanded the Jazz Messengers from a quintet to an incredibly tight sextet – adding in the trombone of Curtis Fuller for an extra-punched up frontline that also included Freddie Hubbard on trumpet ... CD

Count Basie & His Orchestra

Basie Meets Bond
United Artists/Blue Note, 1965. Used
An excellent gimmick – and yet another way that United Artists was trying to push its "Bond" catalog in the 60s! Count Basie brings a soulful swing to the work of John Barry – hitting hard on the tracks with his own smoking piano, and an orchestra filled with some of his best ... CD

Lou Donaldson & The 3 Sounds

LD + 3 (XRCD24 pressing)
Blue Note, 1959. Used
A classic meeting between alto giant Lou Donaldson and Blue Note's crack Three Sounds combo – the great piano trio led by the mighty Gene Harris! The formula was one that Blue Note employed on a number of sessions from the time – and it makes a lot of sense, because the Three Sounds ... CD

Art Blakey & James Moody

New Sounds
Blue Note, 1947/1948. Used
Stunning sounds from the earliest hardbop years of Blue Note – a brilliant CD issue of material from early 78rpm recordings! CD
Blue Note, 1993. Used
A great musical tribute to the late reedman George Adams – a frequent musical partner of pianist Don Pullen. The group features Carlos Ward on alto and flute, Nilson Matta on bass, and both Mor Thiam and Guilherme Franco on percussion! CD
Mosaic, Late 20s/1930s. Used 6 CDs
A wealth of rare 78rpm material – 147 tracks in all, most never issued on LP! CD
Pacific Jazz/Mosaic, Early 60s. Used
All the good stuff from Joe Pass, and none of the gimmicky sessions – all in one great package, with lots of unissued tracks! Includes material from sessions for the Joe Pass albums Catch Me, Joy Spring, For Django, and 12 String Guitar Movie Themes – plus the Les McCann albums On Time ... CD

Joe Lovano

Rush Hour
Blue Note, 2008. Used
... CD
Blue Note, 1964. Used
A jazz classic if there ever was one – and the best-selling album ever by Lee Morgan, thanks to the use of the title track in a car commercial! Sure, you've probably heard "The Sidewinder" enough that you think you know the album already – but the rest of the tunes really ... CD
