Oscar Peterson Live At The Northsea Jazz Festival

LP (Item 514146) Pablo, 1980 — Condition: Near Mint-
2LP Gatefold

With Toots Thielemans on harmonica, Joe Pass on guitar, and Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen on bass. Nice long tracks, too!  © 1996-2020, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Cover has a cut corner and light wear.)

Near Mint - (minus)

  • Black vinyl that may show a slight amount of dust or dirt.
  • Should still be very shiny under a light, even with slight amount of dust on surface.
  • One or two small marks that would make an otherwise near perfect record slightly less so. These marks cannot be too deep, and should only be surface marks that won't affect play, but might detract from the looks.
  • May have some flaws and discoloration in the vinyl, but only those that would be intrinsic to the pressing. These should disappear when the record is tilted under the light, and will only show up when looking straight at the record. (Buddah and ABC pressings from the 70's are a good example of this.)
  • May have some slight marks from aging of the paper sleeve on the vinyl.
  • Possible minor surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Verve, 1952. Very Good+
An overlooked side of the Oscar Peterson genius of the 50s – an album of laidback vocal tracks that are a great change from his better-known instrumental work! Peterson's not the sort of singer to belt out a tune at the top of his lungs – nor cast it in shimmering gossamer like some of ... LP, Vinyl record album
Verve, 1957. Very Good-
An unusual live date for Oscar Peterson – in that it wasn't actually officially recorded by Verve, but done by a fan and handed over to Norman Granz at a later date! Given that origin, though, the material is quite strong – recorded with an edge that's slightly earthier than usual for ... LP, Vinyl record album

We Get Requests
Verve, 1964. Very Good
A key example of the popularity of the Oscar Peterson Trio in the mid 60s – an album of tracks that listeners wanted to hear done in the group's familiar style! The tunes are simple ones, mostly standards and 60s covers – but they're done by Oscar, Ray Brown, and Ed Thigpen in a mode ... LP, Vinyl record album

Fiorello!
Verve, 1960. Very Good
A refreshingly new set of tunes for Oscar Peterson to work his magic on – titles pulled from the musical Fiorello, a big hit at the time of recording, but virtually forgotten now! As usual, Peterson makes more with the tunes than might ever have been there in the first place – but it's ... LP, Vinyl record album

Cole Porter's tunes are great enough on their own, but Oscar really opens them up on this set – picking up the inherent rhythms in the numbers and really working them over – in a way that makes the outing one of the most lively in Peterson's songbook series for Verve! Afro-Cuban Jazz Moods
Pablo, 1975. Very Good+
A great Dizzy Gillespie Latin session recorded during the mid 70s – proof that he could still hold onto the cubop spirit of the old days!
