Burnt Weeny Sandwich

LP (Item 513877) Bizarre/Reprise, 1970 — Condition: Very Good
Gatefold
A burnt weeny sandwich from Frank Zappa & The Mothers Of Invention – and a record that shows just how far they'd come in just a few short years! In a way, the record feels almost like a summation of all the best ideas that Frank had come up with in the studio – some serious musical compositions, mixed with pop music parody, and still a touch of that sharper wit from the initial records – yet all delivered with a dexterity that nobody would have expected from The Mothers at the start! And if anything, there's almost more care and sensitivity here at times – especially on some of the piano parts – showing that Zappa's way more than just a freak letting his flag fly – and has plenty of ears for sounds that go way beyond his scene. Titles include "WPLJ", "Igor's Boogie", "Aybe Sea", "Holiday In Berlin Full Blown", "Valarie", and "The Little House I Used To Live In".  © 1996-2024, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Blue label Bizarre pressing. Cover has light ring wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Frank Zappa/Mothers Of Invention

Uncle Meat
Reprise/Bizarre, 1969. Very Good 2LP Gatefold
An amazing movie in sound – supposedly music (and more) that was going to be used in a film project, issued to the public while Zappa was trying to raise money for production! The album's one of the most tripped-out studio efforts to date from the group – loads of overdubbing, and ... LP, Vinyl record album

Neil Young

Young Shakespeare
Reprise, 1971. Near Mint- Gatefold
The title might be a bit presumptuous, but the album presents a setting that maybe showcases the poetic style of Neil Young even more than some of his classic studio albums of the time – a live solo date, and one that really brings a new sort of quality to some of the era's more familiar ... Reprise, 1967. Very Good+ Gatefold
One of the most fully-formed albums from The Fugs – still quite hippy dippy, but with a focus that's sometimes missing in their other work! And despite the somewhat major label placement of the set, there's arguably even more power here than on the group's earlier indie sides – thanks ... LP, Vinyl record album

Thick As A Brick
Reprise, 1972. Near Mint- Gatefold
Jethro Tull's classic prog album–or is it a parody of a prog album? The LP-length "song", filled with dense lyrics, alternates between hard rock, English folk, and classical. LP, Vinyl record album

Pentangle

Cruel Sister
Reprise, 1970. Near Mint- Gatefold
Pure genius from this legendary group – with a fantastic mix of guitars from Bert Jansch and John Renbourn, and those surprisingly jazzy touches on bass from Danny Thompson. Includes the spectacular side-long classic, "Jack Orion" – plus "Lord Franklin", "Cruel ... LP, Vinyl record album

Moby Grape

20 Granite Creek
Reprise, 1971. Near Mint-
An overlooked nugget from Moby Grape – a set that was recorded at the group's home in the Bay Area – at an address that we're guessing was 20 Granite Creek! There's a very at-home feel to the album – almost a more relaxed, familiar vibe compared to the group's previous Columbia ... LP, Vinyl record album

Electric Prunes

Underground
Reprise, 1967. Near Mint-
The Electric Prunes are maybe best-remembered in terms of their collaboration with David Axelrod – but here, you'll hear the young group already sounding pretty dam great on their own – working with a set of their own arrangements, to create that moody, eerie vibe that instantly made ...
