Kool & The Gang Spin Their Top Hits

CD (Item 513415) De-Lite/Mercury, 1978 — Condition: Used
Out Of Stock

4.60 11

Way more than "top hits" from Kool & The Gang – as the classic package focuses on material from their funkiest years – that great early De-Lite period of the early and mid 70s! There's a lot more funk here than hits – and the titles show Kool & The Gang evolving from the kings of the funky 45 scene to the tight ensemble funk act that would storm the charts at the start of the 80s – yet still quite free of any of the sweeter sounds from those years too! Titles include the classics "Open Sesame", "Hollywood Swinging", "Jungle Boogie", "Kool & The Gang", "Funky Stuff", "More Funky Stuff", "Summer Madness", "Caribbean Festival", "Love & Understanding", and "Spirit Of The Boogie". (Out of print.)  © 1996-2015, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

De-Lite/Unidisc, 1978. Used
Not as hard and funky as the early stuff – with that disco sound that was dominating the De-Lite imprint at the time – but also not too bad, as the groove is in a fast funk mode, with plenty of real instrumentation, in that tight east coast studio mode of the mid 70s. Includes their ... CD

A 70s soul classics – and the closest that Gil Scott-Heron ever came to having a hit! The album's best known for its anthemic classic "Johannesburg" – one of the first popular tunes to really push the cause of a free South Africa – but the whole album's a winner, filled ... CD

One of Lou's most jazz-oriented albums – featuring backing by Les McCann's famous trio with Leroy Vinnegar and Ron Jefferson, perfectly suited to Lou's soulful renditions of the tunes on the album. Most of the numbers are bluesy ones, but as usual, Lou manages to give them his own hip twist ... CD
