Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

Dedication!
Prestige/OJC, 1961. Used
A rare pre-Blue Note gem from pianist Duke Pearson – originally recorded in 1961 for the short-lived Jazzline label! The set appears here in a short-lived 1969 incarnation from Prestige – issued, no doubt, to cash in on Pearson's growing fame at Blue Note – and the record's a ... CD

Herbie's still in electro-grooving mode here – not groundbreaking as earlier records, but still handled by Bill Laswell, and with a tackhead groove pretty firmly in place. The tracks are a bit more complicated than before, with vocals by Sugarfoot, and bass by Bootsy Collins. Titles include ... CD
Whims Of Chambers
Blue Note, 1956. Used
One of the few great records that Paul Chambers made as a leader, and a haunting set of somber hardbop recorded with Horace Silver, Donald Byrd, Kenny Burrell, and John Coltrane. The writing is great, and the group has a nice dark edge that gives the session a slightly different sound than other ... CD

Verve, 1987. Used
An overlooked bit of mid 80s bossa – a live set that features Antonio Carlos Jobim on piano and vocals, plus some great additional help from Gal Costa! The work here is a nice maturation of older bossa modes – slightly darker than before, and with a rich feeling that represents the ... CD

Damn great work from Raheem DeVaughn – the full promise of his soulful sojourn in the underground mixtape scene! Raheem first got his start laying down vocals over beats and other folks' tracks on self-crafted CDs that changed hands covertly in the east coast scene – and that ... CD
