Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We have only one grade for non-new CDs at Dusty Groove — "Used CD". This grade is somewhat all-encompassing, but we choose it because we try to offer Used CDs in the best shape possible. All of our Used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. If you purchase a Used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly — and if it does not, then you may return it for a full refund.

With our Used CDs, you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks — clean, and not dirty at all. You can also expect the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves — putting fresh cases on Used CDs we handle) — and you can expect the booklet to be in good shape, unless noted otherwise. We will list any specific details/defects underneath the item — so look for notes on cutout marks in the case, stamps on the barcode, or details like that.

Muse, 1972. Used
Later work by Don Patterson – one of the best, and most free-swinging of the 60s soul jazz organists – recorded here in the early 70's, with the same tight organ jazz feel as his records for Prestige! Eddie Daniels plays tenor, alto, and soprano on the album – and the rest of the ... CD
New Ideas
Prestige/OJC, 1961. Used
Compelling early work from trumpeter Don Ellis – and a set that's almost equally great for the presence of Jaki Byard on piano! The work's quite different than some of Ellis' other material – a bit more sharp and stark, and played by a group that includes Byard on piano, Al Francis on ... CD
Sonny Boy
Prestige/OJC, 1956. Used
Frenetic bop work from Sonny Rollins – recorded in 1956 with an open-mouthed tone that's certainly less controlled than later years, but still no less compelling! Sonny races along some of these tracks like a train out of control – especially on "B Quick" and "B ... CD
Sonny Rollins
Prestige, Mid 50s. Used
A bit different than the usual Prestige Records two-fer of this type – as the collection brings together tracks from a variety of different sessions by Sonny Rollins – instead of just combining two full LPs! Rollins recorded for Prestige in a variety of formats during the 50s, and this ... CD

Part 3 to the Five Spot recordings from Eric Dolphy – issued here as a "memorial" to Booker Little, even though Little was still alive for the recording! The album features especially searing work from Dolphy, and was part of a series of recordings that set a whole new standard for ... CD
Honeydripper
Prestige/OJC, 1961. Used
One of the records that put a young Brother Jack McDuff on the map – and a perfect example of the rougher R&B roots that first emerged in his early work on the Hammond! The session's got a much more down-n-dirty feel than some of McDuff's tighter 60s quartet work – and offers a ... CD
Blue Gene
Prestige, 1958. Used
Way more than just an album with Gene Ammons as a leader – and instead, a set that truly earns the "all stars" listed on the cover – thanks to a great array of supporting players, and a very loose, open-ended jam session style that lets everyone get in plenty of solo space! ... CD
At Large
Prestige, 1960s. Used
Some killer soul jazz numbers from tenor giant Willis Jackson – including some tasty tracks from hard to find 60s LPs like Shuckin, Swivel Hips, Neapolitan Nights, In My Solitude, and Really Groovin. There's a total of 15 tracks in all – and most of the numbers have Willis playing in a ... CD

Prestige/OJC, 1955. Used
One of the nicest moments from Milt Jackson in the 50s – an open-ended blowing session cut with Miles Davis, in a mode that's even better than Jackson's work for Savoy at the time! The style is very much in the key Davis mode on Prestige – with Jackie McLean in the group on alto sax, ... CD
