Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Used CD Grade

We only use the grade "Used CD" for non-new CDs. This all-encompassing grade was chosen it because we only buy and offer used CDs in the best possible condition.

When you purchase a used CD you can expect the disc to be free of all but the lightest of surface marks, the case to be clean (we often change the cases ourselves), and the booklet to be in good shape. Used CDs may show some signs of use, but if there are significant details or defects we will describe the item's condition (just like we do with LPs), so look for notes on cutout marks, stickers, promo stamps or other details before ordering.

All of our used CDs are guaranteed to play without skipping or flaws. After you receive a used CD from Dusty Groove, you have 1 week to play it to determine that it plays correctly. If it does not, you can request a return for a full refund.

ESP/ZYX (Germany), 1953. Used
Rare broadcast material from Bud Powell – from two different 1953 dates, March 21 and March 23 – the latter of which features Charles Mingus on bass and Roy Haynes on drums! CD
Verve (Japan), 1954/1955. Used
The title says "57", but the music's from a few years before – yet that's OK with us, because Bud Powell always has a sound that's instantly timeless no matter what the year! The album brings together sides from Verve dates in 1954 and 1955 – one featuring Art Blakey on drums ... CD
Blue Note, Late 50s. Used
One of the few rare non-trio recordings done by Powell from around this time. Bud plays with a trio (Paul Chambers bass, Art Taylor drums) on the whole first section of the record, but the group's then joined by Curtis Fuller for the rest of the set. Fuller's deep trombone makes for a different ... CD

Bud Powell

Paris Sessions
Pablo, 1963. Used
A series of different recordings from Bud's years in Paris – recorded in the years 1957 to 1964, with a variety of American and French players! The material isn't some of Bud's strongest overall, but it does shed a new light on his years in Paris – and features him in the company of ... CD

Bud Powell

Bebop
Pablo/Fantasy, 1948/1959/1960/1964. Used
A well-titled collection of work from Bud Powell – one that brings together a host of different bop-tinged sides, all from different points in his career! The first half of the set features a vintage 1948 broadcast from the Royal Roost – featuring Powell's piano in a larger group that ... CD
Blue Note, 1949/1951. Used
Well-done reissue of Bud's first LP for Blue Note – featuring smoking sides that were some of his best work of the 50s! Powell plays on 9 tracks with a trio that includes Max Roach and Curley Russell – but there's also 11 more tracks with a larger group that features Roy Haynes and ... CD
Blue Note, 1958. Used
The scene may be changing, but nothing can dampen the fire of the great Bud Powell – and, if anything, this fifth installment in Blue Note's "Amazing" series may well have the pianist at his mature best! The rhythm duo are wonderful – more late 50s modern hardbop than some of ... CD
Verve (Japan), 1956. Used
The title gets it right – as the album's definitely one of the most bluesy ever cut by Bud Powell for Verve – a sweet little set with a sound that's slightly gentler than usual, but still filled with plenty of dark corners and modern tones! The trio here features Ray Brown on bass and ... CD
Blue Note, 1960s/1990s. Used

Grant Green

Grant's First Stand
Blue Note, 1961. Used
Grant's First Stand – and a mighty one at that! The set was recorded when Green was a guitarist fresh on the scene – showing up in New York from St Louis, where he'd been discovered by Lou Donaldson and brought to Blue Note with great acclaim! For this first date, Green's heard in ... CD

Stefon Harris

Black Action Figure
Blue Note, 1999. Used
The title's a stupid one, but Stefon Harris is one of the boldest voices on vibes in the past 20 years – a great player with a sound that resonates strongly with older work by Bobby Hutcherson and Walt Dickerson! Like both of those players, Harris has a way of approaching the vibes that is ... CD

Ike Quebec
